Halcyon Days At Taoyuan – Dankang Boss Battle Guide

Halcyon Days At Taoyuan Dankang

Halcyon Days at Taoyuan is usually very peaceful and cozy, but as soon as you enter the cave, everything changes, and you’re suddenly fighting for your life. Even regular enemies in the cave can be quite challenging to defeat, especially if they come at you together, but the Dankang boss really pushes everything to the limit, and you’ll need a solid strategy to bring it down. For more information on the game, don’t forget to visit its official Steam page here.

Preparations

If you’re here, the chances are that you’ve already died to Dankang once, and if that’s the case, you’ll end up in Li Yong’s clinic and walk away with 10 free tonics after talking with Li Jie’er, just outside the clinic. Keep in mind that dying for the first time doesn’t cause you to lose any items.

These 10 regular healing tonics are incredibly useful, especially in the boss battle. If you’ve already used up the free ones, you can buy regular and intermediate healing tonics at Li Yong’s clinic. Make sure you’ve got at least 10 of these regular healing tonics in your inventory.

Now, you’ll need some more healing. It’s recommended that you collect the coconuts by the beach and the peaches, or any other fruit, from the free fruit treats near the mine. These will help you recover some more health when you run out of tonics. Don’t forget to equip the lantern as well, as the mines are quite dark.

For the last step, you’ll need better stats. There’s not much you can do in the early game. But if you need some extra help in defeating Dankang, you can tame a wild boar cub and equip it. The wild boar cub serves as a pet and can provide a 10% defense bonus when equipped.

Where To Find Dankang

You can find Dankang inside the mine. If you haven’t defeated Dankang yet, only the rightmost gate will be open. Mines are procedurally generated, and the interior can be quite random.

You’ll often encounter Dankang in the fifth or sixth room. Right before Dankang, you’ll find a statue. This statue will immediately heal all your health and stamina. There’s also a chest next to the statue, which may drop a healing item.

As soon as you encounter the statue, Dankang will be in the next room. So you can decide if you want to fight against it or turn back.

How To Defeat Dankang

Dankang deals contact damage, so you can’t touch it or get too close. If you get close, Dankang will try to hit you with its head. After a short while, Dankang’s movement stops. It will then tap the ground with its hoof a few times before charging at you.

In this boss battle, you’ll have to utilize movement and dashes. Don’t forget to equip the healing tonics or any other healing item in the quick slot.

Your sword’s range is bigger than Dankang’s attack range, and you’ll have to use this fact to your advantage. Just land one hit and get out of its headbutt’s range. If it’s about to use the charge, be prepared to use the dash, as it is the only way you can avoid it.

Whenever you see the boss getting ready for the charge, it’s best to create as much distance as possible. I was having a hard time aiming properly with the sword, so I used the charge to lure the boss to the north of the arena.

This made it possible to attack it from under it and then step away. You also have to keep in mind the arena, because if you get trapped with Dankang on one side and a wall on the other side, you’ll take heavy damage.

One charge attack from Dankang deals around 40 damage, so make sure you always have above 80 HP. This will help you survive the charge attack, as well as the follow-up headbutt or contact damage if you accidentally get blocked by a wall on the other side.

Just keep hitting the boss and running away. This will allow you to bring its HP down little by little, but you have to avoid getting greedy. Step away from the boss after you’ve landed 3 hits on the boss, as it will likely prepare to do a charge attack next.

Rewards For Defeating Dankang

Once you’ve defeated Dankang, it will speak to you, calling you a true hero. Furthermore, the boss will also drop an Indigo Disk, a Harvest Fang accessory, and a piece of Dankang Mane.

Dankang Mane is a resource, while Indigo Disk is a coin with its use currently unclear. However, the Harvest Fang accessory can be equipped immediately, and it gives you a 25% chance to get bonus crops while harvesting.

Additionally, when you go to sleep after defeating Dankang, you’ll encounter the mysterious figure that saved you from the cave, and it will give you a new task.

The other gate in the mine will also open, allowing you to mine better ore, but you’ll also need a better pickaxe to mine the ore in the next mine inside the cave.
