Kai Overview
Kai in Highguard is a defensive Warden who can control space, protect enemies, and fortify positions with ice-based abilities. He can easily overwhelm enemies while using the powerful weapons, so pairing him with a powerful warden like Atticus or Scarlet allows you to dominate enemies and complete objectives quickly.
Playing as Kai, your job is to only protect your allies and help them to push. Pick this Warden if you want secure and hold objectives instead of roaming. Your team will need a defensive character while others play offensively, and Kai is a good fit for that role. Kai often works best with teammates who stick close because his kit supports holding territory. Below are all the abilities of Kai in Highguard that you can use during a match.
- Ice Wall (Tactical Ability): Kai builds a solid ice wall that blocks enemy sightlines, shots, and movement. Make sure to use this ability to block enemy pushes and secure objectives.
- Frozen Repair (Passive Ability): Kai can repair damaged or broken walls in the base. He coats the walls with ice, making it a crucial ability when enemies are trying to breach.
- Frost Giant (Ultimate Ability): Kai transforms into his inner ice demon to become a large, tanky frontliner. He can now absorb damage and can hold tight chokepoints.
Ice Wall (Tactical Ability)

His tankiness in ultimate form is excellent for sealing off the narrow pathways. Frost Giant is very effective while you’re already reinforcing a base with Frozen Repair. Save this ultimate for when your teammates are about to become vulnerable in a fight. Doing so helps you to increase their survivability and continue the push. Make sure to use it when holding objectives and reinforcing choke points.
Best Weapons For Kai
Vanguard, Paladin, and Longhorn are the best weapons to use while playing as a Kai in Highguard. Vanguard is the best weapon in the game when it comes to dealing massive damage and dominating enemies on the battlefield. It has a manageable recoil and solid accuracy for mid‑range fights. This assault rifle works well when covering chokepoints or helping teammates.
Paladin is also a strong weapon that works best with in close range. This weapon is not good at mid or long-range combat, but it can make a huge impact at long range. Longhorn is a revolver that offers precision fire on targets. It has massive damage per shot, allowing you to quickly take down enemies when they’re nearby.
Best Team Comp
Atticus and Mara are the two best Wardens that work well with Kai in Highguard. While Kai can control space and hold objectives, Atticus deals consistent damage and can control the area. Mara keeps the team alive with overshields and spawn support, allowing the team to dominate enemies.
This is the most balanced team with defense, offense, and support utility. Instead of only blocking, make sure you place walls around the different paths to slow down the push. When your team needs a durable frontliner to soak up damage, use your ultimate. This helps your allies to push or hold without becoming vulnerable.
How To Play Kai
Your primary goal when playing as Kai in Highguard is to hold objectives and choke points with barriers. Place Ice Walls to block sightlines and enemy shots. You can use walls to cut off routes and protect teammates. Use walls to cover revives and block enemy flanks. Repair damaged walls to preemptively slow down enemy raids.
Prefer repairing walls that attackers have already breached, forcing the attackers to spend time breaking them again.
Don’t waste your ultimate early; instead, save it for important defensive moments. Use it to block narrow approaches and absorb damage. You can also pair with Support Wardens like Mara or with Recon Wardens like Condor to place walls before enemies arrive.
