Slade Overview

Slade is an Assault class Warden in Highguard who uses fire, magma, and zone denial to control space in fights. This character is less effective in open spaces where fire zones are easier to dodge.
Slade can be vulnerable in most cases if you don’t pair him with the right warden or use an ineffective weapon. It’s worth mentioning that Slade’s abilities generally have longer cooldowns than some other Wardens. Be mindful of ability timing rather than spamming them in open fights.
- Heatwave (Tactical Ability): Slade sends a cascading wave of molten fire along the ground in front of him to zone enemies and pressure choke points.
- Firebomb (Passive Ability): Slade creates an explosion and spreads magma to create hazardous ground. Enemies standing on this ground take massive damage, allowing Slade to control the area.
- Firestorm (Ultimate Ability): Slade calls down a rain of fire/magma onto a targeted area for crowd control or to force enemies out of objectives.
Heatwave (Tactical Ability)

Heatwave is a powerful ability of Slade’s in Highguard and it can allow you to dominate the enemies if used properly. Slade sends a molten fire wave towards the ground in front of him, burning and damaging enemies it touches, making it easier to create area pressure.
It works straight ahead from Slade’s direction, so aiming matters a lot here. Make sure to use this ability to disrupt enemy positioning and control tight spaces such as corridors or choke points.

I recommend using the Heatwave to block crucial pathways where enemies can hold angles. The fire wave makes it hard for enemies to push or reposition in narrow areas. Heatwave pushes them deeper into danger after Firebomb because the enemies are already taking damage on the ground.
Follow up this ability with the ultimate if enemies are stacked around. Make sure not to waste Heatwave in open areas where enemies can avoid it easily. Use it as enemies approach objectives to force them to take damage or get out of the cover in Highguard.
Firebomb (Passive Ability)

When Slade triggers Firebomb during a match, he creates an explosion that spreads magma over an area. This leaves the ground hazardous that damages enemies who stand on it. This ability is very useful for area denial and maintaining pressure in a match.

Make sure to place it around objectives, revive points, or choke points to block opponents in one area. Combine it with Slade’s other fire abilities to make areas costly for enemies. Firebomb is strongest when opponents can’t easily step around in areas like interior rooms or control points.
Use Heatwave first to push enemies into a spot, then allow the Firebomb magma to cover the ground. Hold angles where enemies might push and let the magma lead them. Drop magma near objectives just before fights to make enemies vulnerable. This ability pairs well with teammates who can lock down corridors.
Firestorm (Ultimate Ability)

Firestorm is Slade’s ultimate ability, which can call down a barrage of fire from above onto a targeted zone. This can create a hazardous area that rains fire onto enemies to dominate them in combat. This is a very powerful ability to use to push towards the objective quickly.
Use this ability to force enemies to take damage or reposition if they stay within the area. The fire rain covers the targeted area and punishes enemies, so use it wisely when enemies are grouped.

Even if your use of Firestorm doesn’t directly score kills, it pressures enemies to move out of the positions. This can split enemy focus or give your team openings to push. Make sure to use this ability where enemies are least able to dodge it or spread out.
Use Heatwave to push enemies, then use Firebomb to spread magma, and at last call Firestorm on top of them. Enemies with high mobility or long-range weapons can avoid the fire rain easily though, so you need to cast it when enemies are busy fighting your teammates.
Best Weapons For Slade

Slade in Highguard excels in close-range fights, so choose weapons that are more effective when your enemies are closer. Vanguard is the best weapon to choose while playing as Slade because it has a good damage output and can deal massive damage. Use Vanguard to poke enemies at range and then use Heatwave to pressure them.

Kraken is close range shotgun that can eliminate enemies in melee range combat. Switch to Kraken to punish them after forcing enemies into small spaces with Heatwave.
Viper is also a strong weapon to use for Slade because it has a fast fire rate for chasing or finishing enemies. Compared to burst weapons, it’s easier to control the spray of this SMG. Pair Kraken or Paladin with Vanguard or Viper for extra mobility and to eliminate enemies quickly.
Best Team Comp For Slade

Redmane and Mara are the best Wardens who work well with Slade in Highguard. Redmane excels at breaching walls and aggressive engagements. Mara, on the other hand, provides overshields and survivability.
Redmane busts in, Slade locks down spaces with fire, and Mara keeps the team healthy. Make sure to use Mara’s shields before entering tight corridors. Condor is also a good Warden to choose for Slade due to his vision and early warnings about enemy positions. Scarlet is great at stealth flank and breach, allowing her to apply pressure from different angles.
How To Play Slade in Highguard

Slade’s kit works best when his fire abilities are used together in Highguard. You need to send a molten wave down a corridor before an engagement to force enemies out of cover. Use Firebomb to create a lingering magma zone and place it where enemies are most likely to pass through.
Save the Ultimate for clustered enemies or during team pushes to break enemy defenses. Prioritize securing your first kill with Heatwave or Firebomb setups. Place Firebomb magma near objectives and use Heatwave to block doorways to dominate enemies in combat.
Make sure to avoid using Firestorm in wide open spaces where enemies can dodge it. Communicate with the teammates before using the abilities or pushing towards the objective. Use Vanguard to eliminate the enemies in mid-range combat, then swap to Kraken to tackle enemies when they’re nearby.
