Grand Mother Silk Moveset Overview
Blade Strafe and Claw Swipe Attacks

Grand Mother Silk has a relatively simple and straightforward moveset, despite being the final boss of Act 2. What makes this battle challenging are the environmental hazards that you need to be wary of while fighting her.
The fight is split into two phases. Here are the primary attacks she uses throughout the encounter:
Strafing Blades
Grand Mother Silk fights with six floating swords. Three blades line up horizontally while the other three line up vertically and strafe across the arena. To dodge this attack, move into the empty space between the passing blades.

She also has variations of this attack where all six blades strafe either vertically or horizontally. In the first phase, she typically uses this pattern once. As the fight progresses, she can chain the attack multiple times in a row, so be ready to dodge through each wave.
Claw Swipe
Grand Mother Silk swipes her claw across the arena in a wide arc, dealing heavy damage if it connects. As she attacks, all six blades plunge vertically behind her arm.

To dodge this attack, stand near either edge of the arena or jump over her claw as it sweeps across. Be careful of the falling blades as well.
Silk Embrace and Arena Hazards
Silk Embrace
Grand Mother Silk fills the arena with strands of silk. Touching the silk triggers this attack, dealing three masks of damage. In the second phase, she can chain another set of silk strands across the arena right after the first.

Once you deal enough damage, Grand Mother Silk disappears from the arena. This marks the start of the second phase. You’ll notice some silk strands start to appear, marking a specific section of the arena. After a short delay, rocks fall in those areas.Â

This will happen twice. Dodge the falling rubble and the boss will appear again, initiating phase 2.Â
Phase 2 of the fight plays out much the same as the first, but with added hazards. Grand Mother Silk now summons two types of environmental traps. She will either cover sections of the ground with spikes or cause rocks to fall from above.Â

By watching where the silk strands appear, you can predict which hazard and where is coming. For spikes, the strands will generally be thinner while falling rocks will have a wider line of strand.Â

Phase 1 Strategy
Dodging Blade Patterns
The fight against Grand Mother Silk is as much a platforming challenge as it is a boss battle. Quick movement and careful positioning are the keys to victory. If you have unlocked the double jump ability, this encounter becomes much easier.

Using Clawline and Pogoing Safely
In the first phase, stay aggressive but avoid overcommitting. Use Clawline to close the gap quickly while in the air, then pogo over her to keep dishing out damage.
If the blades are positioned below you during her Blade Strafe attack, you can continue pogoing safely without being hit.
Avoiding Silk Embrace Damage
The same does not apply when she uses Silk Embrace. During this attack, drop down or float into a space where the silk strands are not touching the arena.
If you pogo too high above the screen, you will get caught in the attack and take three masks of damage.

Phase 2 Strategy
Environmental Hazards and Falling Rocks
The second phase is much trickier. Her attacks speed up, and the added environmental traps mean that a single mistake can cost you your entire health bar.
Balancing Offense and Defense
If you are confident in your platforming abilities, keep pogoing over her to deal damage. Otherwise, play more defensively and focus on survival.
Wispfire Lantern Tactics
Auto-Ignite and Flame Spirit Damage
The Wispfire Lantern is especially effective in this fight, to the point of making it nearly trivial. As long as you stay focused on evading her attacks, the Flame Spirits will steadily chip away at her health and ignite her without you having to lift a finger.

Combat Tips and Tricks
Exploiting No Contact Damage
Since the boss does not deal contact damage, you can also afford to play more aggressively.
Timing Dashes and Needle Hits
Dash directly into her when you see an opening to land multiple needle hits before backing off.
Using Stagger Windows
With enough hits, you can stagger her and she’ll fall down to the arena. You can land three to four hits uninterrupted and a few more as she’s getting up.
Keep the pressure on, maintain careful positioning, and Grand Mother Silk will eventually fall. The following video shows you our attempt at beating the boss:Â

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Grand Mother Silk the Final Boss?
Grand Mother Silk is the final boss of Act 2 in Hollow Knight: Silksong. For most players, she serves as the game’s final challenge unless you complete the hidden prerequisites to unlock Act 3. After defeating her, credits will roll for the Weaver Queen ending, or you can access Act 3 content if you’ve completed the required Wishes.
How Hard is Grand Mother Silk?
Grand Mother Silk is considered moderate to hard difficulty. Her attack patterns are straightforward but become challenging with Phase 2 environmental hazards. The fight is significantly easier with the Double Jump ability and proper tool loadout like Wispfire Lantern. She’s generally easier than Act 1’s Last Judge but harder than early-game bosses.
What Are the Best Tools for Grand Mother Silk?
The Wispfire Lantern is the most effective tool for this fight, making it nearly trivial as Flame Spirits chip away her health passively. Flintslate boosts needle damage, Injector Band allows healing during attack strings, and Claw Mirror provides defensive options. Witch Crest or Reaper Crest work well for the aerial combat style this fight demands.
How Do I Dodge the Silk Embrace Attack?
When Grand Mother Silk shrieks and silk strands appear across the arena, immediately drop to the ground or float into spaces where silk isn’t touching the platform. Avoid pogoing too high during this attack as you’ll take 3 masks of damage if caught. In Phase 2, she chains two Silk Embrace attacks back-to-back, so stay vigilant.
Does Grand Mother Silk Deal Contact Damage?
No, Grand Mother Silk does not deal contact damage. You can dash directly into her to land multiple needle hits safely. This makes aggressive strategies more viable—you only need to dodge her blade attacks and environmental hazards, not worry about touching her body.
When Can I Safely Heal During the Fight?
The safest healing windows occur after landing enough hits to stagger Grand Mother Silk, causing her to fall to the arena floor. You can land 3-4 uninterrupted hits while she’s staggered. Phase transitions also provide brief healing opportunities. Use Injector Band to heal during attack strings if needed.
