You can get two possible endings in Cairn. In our opinion none of them are the true endings of the game. It depends on how you view Aava’s character and story.
Once you climb past the Blades you will meet Marco, who will show you the room where the previous climbers have left their gear. Once you climb down to the bridge you will find Marco waiting for you. He will ask you to make a decision.
“Home” Ending
If you choose to “Go Back Down” this will start the home ending. This will unlock the achievement and grant you the Capsule Keepsake.
“Part of a Whole” Ending
If you choose to keep climbing or “Continue the ascent” you will have to survive an avalanche.
At the top your Stamina will be halved, and your hunger, thirst, and temperature will be significantly reduced. You will lose all these things faster and will recover slower, all the while your maximum level of all survival mechanics will be reduced. You will make your way through snow and a tough climb will follow. Eventually you will need to decide between “Continuing with Climbot” or ‘Cut the Rope”.
This is more of a symbolic choice, as choosing either doesn’t effect the ending but it does affect the ending scene when you summit.
After you reach the top, you will have one last button prompt to see the ending scene.
