Hytale Animals Guide – How to Capture, Tame and Feed

Hytale animals guide

Discover everything you need to know about animals in Hytale with this detailed guide, including how to capture, feed, and tame them.

Animals in Hytale are a wide range of creatures that populate the world. Many animals are passive, although some, such as sharks or saber-toothed tigers, are hostile or defensive. Animals provide resources like meat, hides, wool, and eggs, making taming crucial in every aspect. Learn how to tame the animals and ride the horse.

For more information on the game, you can visit its official Steam page here.

How To Tame Animals

Hytale does not currently have a permanent animal taming system where animals become your pets and follow you on command. Maybe we can get this feature in future updates. However, you can ride the horse, but not tame it completely. The game allows you to capture various small animals, including rabbits, chickens, calves, baby pigs, frogs, and mice.

You can mount and ride horses when you approach them and interact by pressing the ‘F’ key. They often wander off or run away once you dismount. There’s no taming mechanic that makes them follow you. Taming in Early Access means capturing or calming animals.

You can use the right tactic to move into the enclosures. Make sure to use the food to lure them.

How to Get Capture Crate

You can capture certain small animals in Hytale using a Capture Crate. You can craft this item at the Farmer’s Workbench. This crafting bench is crafted at the standard workbench using the required materials. Keep in mind that capturing animals doesn’t tame the animal, but allows you to relocate and contain them.

The materials required to craft 6xTree Trunk and 20xPlant Fiber. Use these materials to craft Farmer’s Workbench and make a Capture Crate.

You need to use 4xWood and 50xEssence of Life to craft a Capture Crate. The Essence of Life is obtained by harvesting the crops and wild plants. Chopping some trees allows you to gain this material, along with logs, sticks, and tree sap.

Killing mobs like cows, sheep, and rabbits is also another way to obtain Essence of Life. Once you acquire all the required materials to craft the Capture Crate, interact with the Farmer’s Workbench to craft it.

How To Use a Feed Bag

The Feed Bag in Hytale is a craftable item used to influence animal behavior. You can use it to attract and calm certain animals so they come closer instead of running away. It draws animals toward it when placed on the ground.

Animals show their hearts or are less skittish. Interact with the Farmer’s Workbench to craft the Feed Bag using materials like 10xWheat, 5xVegetable, 5xFruit, and 10xEssecen of Life. Wheat can be obtained by harvesting the wheat crops while exploring the world or from your farm.

Once you craft it, hold the Feed Bag in your hand as you approach animals. Animals may stay calm and show heart icons, indicating that they’re less fearful. This makes approaching them easier, especially when paired with a Capture Crate.

I highly recommend placing a Feed Bag near enclosures to draw animals into pens. Calm animals first, then use a Capture Crate to take them home. You can capture animals in Hytale to gain resources like hides, wool, and eggs.

How To Feed Animals

Feeding in Hytale is used to lure, calm, or attract animals so you can manage them. When you hold certain food items in your hand, nearby animals that are interested in that food will move toward you. Rabbits and horses are attracted to carrots, so use them.

Make sure to lead it toward a pen or where you want it. When close enough, you can use a Capture Crate for small animals if you want to transport them. Keep in mind that animals can still leave if they wander out of range or lose interest.

How To Get a Horse

Horses in Hytale spawn naturally in the world, especially in open plains or grasslands like Emerald Grove and savannah areas. They usually appear roaming in small groups, so exploring those biomes increases your chances of finding one. Even though you can’t tame horses permanently, you can ride them temporarily.

Approach a Horse carefully after locating it while exploring. Make sure to avoid sprinting straight at it or making sudden movements that scare it.

Get close enough and look for the interact prompt. Press the ‘F’ key to get on and ride. Once mounted, you can use movement controls to travel faster. Horses will leave or wander off if you dismount them. This animal is attracted to carrots or feed items.

Holding carrots or placing a Feed Bag helps lure them closer so you can mount them without chasing. If you want to keep a horse in one place, you need to build a fenced area and guide the horse inside.
