What is Farming in Hytale
Farming in Hytale is a core activity, where you grow renewable food and resource crops. This allows you to produce food, crafting materials, and a special resource called Essence of Life. Crafting the Farmer’s Workbench is crucial to unlock farming tools and seeds. Once farms are established, you create a loop. The objective is to plant seeds, grow crops, harvest, and spend Essence of Life to expand your farming activity.
How To Craft Farmer’s Workbench Â
Craft a standard workbench using the required materials, such as wood and stone. Interact with this crafting bench to craft the Farmer’s Workbench. This is your main farming hub for tools and seeds in Hytale.
You don’t need to upgrade the workbench to craft the Farmer’s workbench. The materials required to craft this crafting station are 6xTree Trunk and 20xPlant Fiber.
Chopping the trees by using the pickaxe allows you to gain Tree Trunks. Plant Fiber is acquired by destroying the buses and wheat plantation. Once you find all the required materials, interact with the workbench to get your Farmer’s Workbench.
You need to craft the basic farming tools, like the Crude Hoe and the Watering Can, at the Farmer’s Workbench. Crude Hoe is used till the soil so you can plant seeds, and use the Watering Can to fill with water and help crops grow faster.
The materials required to craft this tool are 2xTree Trunk and 1xStone. 3xIron Ingot are required to craft the Watering Can at Farmer’s Workbench. Collect the Iron Ore from the caves mining the node. Interact with the Furnace and add the Iron Ores into the input slot to initiate the smelting process.
How To Farm in Hytale
To farm in Hytale, you need to get your hands on seeds. Harvest wild crops like mature wheat and lettuce found in the world to gain Essence of Life and sometimes seeds. You can also craft the seeds at the Farmer’s Workbench with Essence of Life in the Seeds tab. Wild wheat is a common early source of Essence of Life, which you’ll need to buy seed bags.
Equip the Crude Hoe and press the RMB on dirt or grass to till the soil. You can farm on grass or dirt blocks, so make sure to plan out a rectangular plot for efficiency.
Select your seed bag in your hotbar and hit the RMB on each piece of tilled soil to plant the seeds. It’s worth mentioning that different seeds correspond to different crops like wheat, carrots, corn, and more.
Fill the Watering Can at a nearby water source and press the RMB on tilled soil to water your crops. Watering the crops allows them to grow faster. Water once per plot if you want faster growth, as unwatered crops still grow, but slower. Crops will grow over time. When the crops are mature, interact with them to harvest. You can use the pickaxe or shear to harvest them.
How To Grow Crops Effectively
Make sure to use crops and Essence of Life to upgrade the workbench, unlocking better seeds and tools. Higher crop tiers give more essence and boost your farm’s productivity.
Fertilizer bags applied to tilled soil enhance growth speed further. I highly recommend positioning water sources or canals close to your fields so you don’t waste time walking back and forth.
Harvesting yields food and Essence of Life, which you can then spend on more seeds or tools. Standing near the planted seeds and waiting for them to grow can badly influence their growth. Early crops yield more essence than they cost, allowing you to quickly expand the farm land.
Arrange crops in rectangular rows or grids to make planting, watering, and harvesting easier. Fences help protect crops from mobs. Higher‑tier tools and seeds help you expand your farming range. Focus on crops that cost less Essence but still yield profits.
