Placing multiple fishing traps at different spots along an ocean coastline gives more consistent catches. Use the fish to cook new recipes at Chef’s Stove to gain unique buffs. Is Fishing Possible in Hytale?

You can catch fish in Hytale in Early Access, but the game does not yet have a classic fishing rod and minigame like other survival games. You use Fishing Traps to catch the fish in the water. This tool is crafted at Farmer’s Workbench. These traps catch fish over time once placed in oceans and rivers. You can also defeat fish directly in shallow water using your weapon to get fish meat.

Upgrade the Farmer’s Workbench

Interact with the Farmer’s Workbench to craft the Fishing Trap in Hytale. First of all, you need to craft the standard workbench using the required materials. 20xPlant Fiber and 6xTree Trunk are required to craft the Farmer’s Workbench.

These materials can be easily acquired while exploring the world at the beginning of the game. Once you use the required materials to craft the Farmer’s Workbench, interact with it to upgrade it to tier 2. You need 50xEssence of Life, 5xLettuce, and 5xSoftwood Trunks.

Chop down softwood‑type trees like Beech, Aspen, or Banyan in the world to obtain the Softwood Trunks.

The main way to obtain lettuce is by farming it yourself. Interact with the Farmer’s Workbench to buy Lettuce Seed Bags with Essence of Life. Prepare farmland using the hoe to till the soil near water. Now, place the lettuce seeds in the tilled soil and wait for 2 in-game days for the lettuce to grow fully. Once mature, interact with the plant to harvest it.

How to Craft a Fishing Trap

The materials required to craft the Fishing Trap are 10xWood, 50xEssence of Life, 20xPlant Fiber, and 1xIron Ingot. Wood is obtained by chopping down trees scattered all around the world. Mine the Iron Ore in the caves using the pickaxe.

Once done, interact with the Furnace to add the Iron Ore into the input slot. Add the Oak Log in the fuel section to turn on the smelting process. Doing so allows you to gain an Iron Ingot. 4xTree Trunk and 3xStone are required to craft the Furnace at workbench tier 1.

Essence of Life is obtained by harvesting the bushes and mature crops in the world. Breaking or harvesting crops like wheat, pumpkins, and carrots gives you Essence of Life. Killing animals like cows, sheep, and rabbits also grants you this crafting item. Once you obtain all the required material, interact with the Farmer’s Workbench to craft the Fishing Trap.

How To Fish in Hytale

Once you obtain the Fishing Trap, dive into the water on river or the ocean. Put the Fishing Trap and wait for a while. After that, interact with the trap to collect fish. Higher-rarity fish yield more fish meat.

You can use the caught fish to cook or use for food and recipes at a cooking station. You need to check the Fishing Trap after half a day. If you’re lucky enough, you can catch the Legendary fish that grants 16xFish Meat.

Alternate Fishing Method

You can attack the fish with your weapons, like daggers and swords, in shallow water. This kills fish and gives you fish meat. This method is inefficient but works.

Below are the best tips and tricks to start fishing in Hytale.

Craft Fishing Traps and place them in water to passively catch fish over time.
Traps only work in deep, naturally generated bodies of water.
Avoid shallow water or decorative ponds, as the trap there will often remain empty.
Make sure to look for water that’s 4+ blocks deep.
Ocean and large river biomes usually give the best success in fishing.
Once placed, traps generate fish passively, so you don’t need to stand by them.
Place multiple traps at once to improve overall yield.
Don’t expect fish instantly, as trapping needs time.
No need to ignore bait if you want rarer catches more.
