What is the Essence of Ice
Essence of Ice in Hytale is an elemental essence item that drops from hostile mobs like skeletons and other enemies. The enemy that drops this crafting item is located in snowy or tundra regions of the world. Unlike wood or ores, you don’t mine it from the ground. You collect it from enemy loot after defeating them.
The Essence of Fire is used to craft Ice Crystal Staff, Slowing Totem, Fragment Orbis, and Frozen Furniture. It’s used primarily at the Arcanist’s Workbench to craft ice/frost magic gear and items.
Having a large amount of Essence of Ice in your inventory can make the progression smooth while progressing in the snowy biome. You get more than one essence for killing the frost enemies.
How To Get Essence of Ice
The only way to obtain the Essence of ice in Hytale is to eliminate creatures like Yeti, Snail Frost, Spirit Frost, Zombie Frost, Skeleton Frost Archer, Skeleton Frost Ranger, and Skeleton Frost Mage. Each enemy type in the snowy biome drops this item after you kill them. Make sure to travel to Tundra, cold snowy regions, Zone 3, to find the enemies.
You can’t get this essence in warm biomes like forests or deserts, as it’s exclusive to icy terrain. Ice Skeletons roaming the snowy plains are the best enemies for farming Ice Essence because they drop it consistently and often multiple times per kill.
Other cold biome hostile mobs and enemies inside icy structures, ruins, forts, or encampments also drop this crafting item. It’s worth mentioning that the cluster of enemies in forts or structures is faster to farm than scattered mobs.
Make sure to target packed enemies in icy forts or camps. It’s best to bring cold-resistant gear, allowing you to survive longer in freezing conditions.
Use the Daggers or wide swing weapons like a mace to clear groups faster and collect more essence. The area attack is best to clear a group of enemies. Farming outside the Tundra doesn’t grant Essence of Ice drops.
How to Use Essence of Ice
Essence of ice in Hytale is a key ingredient for crafting ice or frost magic weapons at the Arcanist’s Workbench. You need 20x Essence of Ice, Sapphire, Silver Ingots, and Azure Logs to craft the Ice Crystal Staff. The Ice Crystal Staff fires ice‑based attacks and uses Essence of Ice as a magic resource to power its ranged attack.
This crafting item is also used for other Arcanist’s Workbench recipes like Slowing Totem and Fragment Orbis. Use 30x Essence of Ice along with Cobalt Ingots and Ice blocks to craft Slowing Totem. When placed, it creates a field that slows the enemies, making it helpful for tough combat.
Dragonspire Weald is a portal fragment that allows you to travel to a specialized Orbis fragment world. Use 30x Essence of Ice and Cobalt Ingots to craft this Orbis. You can use Essence of Ice to craft furniture or decorative items like the Small Frozen Castle Chest from the Furniture Workbench.
