Gather Sticks, Flints and Fibers

Sticks and Flint rocks are useful resources that are scattered across. You need these to craft many essential tools when you start. Gather as many as you can whenever you see these.
Tools wear out after a while, so if you are in the middle of gathering wood and your axe breaks, you will have enough resources to craft another one. Fibers are also obtainable from plants, which you can manually collect. You should also head out to explore often to find new resources.
Craft A Bed

You need a bed to sleep in, and you need fabric for that. To craft fabric, you first need to make thatch using the grass blocks. Using the thatch, you can make simple white fabric. Use the fabric you have obtained with the planks to craft a single or double bed.
You can sleep in it to automatically start the next day. You don’t need to place it inside a building. It’s harder to explore at night due to the dark, so you can use the bed to skip the time.
Craft A Torch

Crafting a torch should be among your early priorities, even though the tutorial doesn’t teach you that. You need that to explore the darker places, such as the caves.
If you want to use a tool while holding the torch, press the Q button to hold it in your other hand and then equip your tool in the main toolbar.
Do Not Engage Hostile Animals

If you are looking for food, do not provoke bears and other harmful animals. Start slowly by hunting deer until you build better weapons and gear. You can also craft bear traps later to tackle them.
It’s also advisable to make your first world in peaceful mode. This will help you get used to the gameplay without any threats. You will also get a better idea about where to source certain materials.
Prepare Well Before Raiding

Combat is the focus of Lay of the Land as well, as you can conquer enemy strongholds. However, make sure to craft better weapons and armor beforehand. Generally, spells and long-distance weapons are easier to use.
If you plan on fighting head-on, make sure to at least equip a shield. You should also cook some food to get passive effects to help you in battle.
Be Careful While Farming

Be careful while you are chopping down trees; they may fall on you as you cut their trunks. This will cause you significant damage. Do not break the trunk clearly or run away when you see it fall. You should also be careful in caves, where there is also a chance of voxels falling on you.
Upgrade And Repair Weapons

You should also build an anvil to repair any damaged weapons. The recipe is found in the usables section. You just need to place the corresponding ore plate next to the weapon on the anvil to repair it. Upgrading weapons is done similarly, but you need gems instead of plates.
