Mewgenics is a deceptively deep game packed with interconnected systems. As you progress, you’ll unlock new mechanics and features that affect everything from how your cats fight to how your runs evolve over time. However, not all of these mechanics and features are explained clearly.
While some mechanics add small bonuses and quality-of-life upgrades here and there, others can completely change how your cat squad performs on a run. Class Collars fall strictly into the second category. You start with just enough to get you through the early few runs, but as you progress, you unlock more that drastically change your cat’s combat roles.
In this guide, we’ll break down everything you need to know about Class Collars, how to unlock them, and the stat upgrades that come with them.

What are Class Collars in Mewgenics?

Class Collars are how you assign your cats to a specific class before you send them out on an adventure. As you progress through the game naturally, you’ll unlock pretty much all the Class Collars the game has to offer. You start off with four unlocked collars: Fighter, Tank, Mage, and Hunter. This offers a good balance of ranged and melee attackers to set up your preliminary squads.
When you assign a Cat Collar to a cat, it gains a set of bonuses and penalties to its attributes. It also gains an Active Ability, a Basic Attack, and a Passive Ability from that class. The abilities and passives you gain are randomized, but the Basic Attack for a specific class is always the same.
While the starter classes are excellent, as you unlock newer zones in the later Acts of the game, you’ll see that their DPS and utility start to fall off. That’s where the other classes will come in. By unlocking the remaining Class Collars in the game, you’ll be able to add more variety to your team compositions and try out unique strategies to wreck your enemies.

What Are Blank Collars in Mewgenics?

Apart from the ones mentioned above, there’s another unique Class Collar called the Blank Collar. This becomes available as part of Tracy’s questline. You need to send her cats who are aged 5 or above, and she’ll eventually stock a Blank Collar in the shop. You can buy up to three Blank Collars in the game.
Once you purchase a Blank Collar from Tracy, you’ll see a duplicate collar of another class appear in your inventory when you depart for an adventure. This allows you to build team compositions using two cats of the same class, such as two Hunters, two Fighters, etc.
