Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault – Monte The Prince Of Howling Harbor Fight Guide

Join us at Into Indie Games for another boss guide in Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault.

The final boss you’ll encounter in the game is Monte, the Prince of Howling Harbor. However, reaching this fight isn’t as straightforward as simply completing the Zephyr Fields, as the location where you’ll face him doesn’t unlock automatically.

You’ll first need to figure out how to unlock Howling Harbor before you can make your way there and take on Monte.

Preparations

Unlike other locations, Howling Harbor won’t unlock until you complete Julien’s Souls Forever Lost 2 side task.

Simply speak to him during the day and then during the night at least twice each, and he should give you the quest and unlock Howling Harbor at the Dimensional Gate.

The quest itself is to defeat Monte, but you need to be on your best gear with all your perks upgraded in order to stand a chance in this location, let alone against Monte himself.

It’s arguably the toughest boss fight here, but thankfully, he has a lot of recovery time between attacks that you can exploit.

Phase 1

Monte has a large HP pool and many attacks that you need to look out for. He is riding a stingray and is constantly on the move.

The boss will start the fight by diving into the ground and then reappearing at your current location. When he emerges, he will mark your location again before diving back in.

You can easily avoid this sequence by simply running around the arena. After he finishes this attack, he will reappear at the center, and you can rush toward him and attack because this is a great opening.

Monte summons a ring of thunder around him that will shoot lightning and expand outward.

This is another great opening because the ring will expand at least a few times, so if you successfully dodge the first wave toward him, you can deal a lot of damage to him while he remains in place.

Be wary, as he will repeat this attack a few times, so it’s okay if you don’t always try to get in for damage. At least try to do it once, and then you can just back off for the remaining ones.

Once this attack finishes, Monte will go back to the center of the arena, and this is another opening that you can use to land hits.

Monte can dash toward Will and swing his sword to attack. Simply dodge after he dashes and you should escape it.

Another attack Monte can use is when he marks a straight line and then spears will descend from it. As flashy as it looks, it’s easy to avoid, as you can simply stay out of the marked line on the ground.

Once again, when he finishes this attack, he will reappear at the center, and you can deal damage during this opening.

Phase 2

After you manage to take out around a third of his health, Monte will move to a higher area, and you need to catch up to him, but he won’t make it easy.

You need to make it to the end of this arena to reach the zipline. However, he will shoot projectiles at your location in threes, and you need to find the gap to progress through the wall of swords ahead.

Use the zipline to catch up to him and then go up. You will see he has already shielded himself, and there are three platforms that you can zipline through.

The objective here is to destroy the shield, and you can do so by using your backpack attack on the purple items that will spawn at the three platforms here.

Be careful, as not every platform will have the purple item. Instead, sometimes one of the platforms will be marked and a thunderbolt will strike it.

After you destroy his shield, you two will go back to the regular arena to continue the fight. Monte is not done with you yet, and he will start this with a new attack.

The boss will spawn chains around the arena and dash through them. If you are in his way, you will get damaged. He will also spawn a few enemies that you should prioritize taking out.

The rest of this phase will remain the same as the first one. He will just mix and match the attacks. For example, the dash melee attack will now spawn lines of thunder on each side.

Just be sure to benefit from the opening in between each sequence.

Phase 3

After Will manages to take out another third of his health, Monte will move back to the higher area, and you need to catch up to him again. This is the same as last time, so find your way through and take the zipline.

There, use your backpack attack to throw the purple items at him and destroy his shield. When the shield is broken, you will be back at the arena. Monte is now more aggressive than ever.

You will see that he will do his attacks in quick succession, and he will have more thunderbolts coming down from the sky.

Just be patient, try to focus on attacking only between his attacks, and save your potions for this phase.

The Reward

After successfully defeating Monte, you will get two chests containing high-quality relics, alongside a new crafting material called The King’s Right Mask.

And with that, we wrap up another guide for Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault. Thanks for checking it out!
