Nioh 3 – Insatiable Hunger Quest Walkthrough

Nioh 3

Nioh 3 changes the formula a bit from the previous games in the genre. Instead of the linear approach you used to for missions, this time, you still have that but also you get some open area regions in which you can freely roam and explore

One of the first side quests that you will probably encounter is the Insatiable Hunger and in this guide will go over how you can complete it.

How To Start The Insatiable Hunger Quest

South east from the Prospect Hill Shrine, which is the first shrine of the Warring States region, you will come across a dead body on a wooden plank and a ghost. Approach it and interact with it.

The ghost will mention something about a ferry there nearby to get some food. You need to retrace this so you can free the spirit.

Head To The Ferry

The ferry the ghost is talking about is located to the very east of your current location, so make your way there. Once you approach the location, make sure you interact with the Shrine at the entrance.

If this is your first time entering this location, it will be an Enemy Base and you need to clear it first. There are seven enemies scattered around and you need to defeat all of them.

With this done, on the right side, you will find a narrow gap between towering stacks of rice bales and straw bundles.

Crouch there and you will find another dead body.

When you interact with it, you will realize this is the mother, and she sacrificed herself to help her son, Taro. Her last words ask her son to head to a nearby house in the forest.

The house is located just southwest of your location, and you will easily recognize it. This is because when you approach it you will see a huge Yokai sitting there.

Defeat Gaki Chief

Unfortunately, things went wrong for the son and he has turned into a Yokai and the only way to release this man’s ghost is by defeating it and completing his unfinished business.

Gaki Chief is a big sized boss fight that he doesn’t use any fancy attacks. Big size means slow attacks but heavy hits which means that you need to try and avoid his attacks any chance you get.

Gaki Chief has a large pool of health and while your attacks might seem like they are not doing much, you need to focus on hitting the crystals on his legs to get critical attacks

A lot of the pressure comes from big stomps where one foot lifts and hangs in the air for a second before slamming down. The moment you see that leg go up, just move away and give it space instead of hesitating.

After the impact lands, the boss is stuck recovering long enough for you to run back in and land a few hits before he goes back to attacking you.

The other main threat is a set of wide arm sweeps using those long claws. The creature spreads its arms and drags them across in a broad swing that is meant to catch you standing too close.

Nioh 3

Stepping out of range or blocking both work fine, and once the swing ends there is a short pause that you can use to punish.

As you see no need for any parry or guarding his attacks as running away is the most effective.

As a reward for your efforts, you will get exploration points, Ninja’s Locks, Paralysis Omamori (Samurai), Paralysis Omamori (Ninja)
