Nova Roma is a city builder title where you have to build your own Rome. You start with nothing but an outpost and a few people, but slowly, you’ll be able to gather your resources and set the foundation of your own beautiful city. However, other than the city building aspects and completing divine tasks, you also have to watch out for invasions, which can be fairly challenging to deal with. What Are Invasions
After you start a new game, once you’ve settled down and a few years have passed, you may get a warning from one of the Roman gods that invaders are heading to your city, and that you must recruit a militia to be able to fight against them.
Some time after the warning, you may see the invaders’ ship in the nearby sea. They’ll attack your city and try to damage a few buildings before heading away. Early on, these invasions are fairly easy to keep away.
However, even if you have built no defenses, these invaders may go away by themselves after causing little damage, especially in the early game.
In higher difficulty modes, invasions are more frequent, and it can get extremely challenging to divide your resources between building good defenses and also fulfilling the needs of your citizens.
How To Fight Invaders
There are two ways to fight off the invaders. You can either recruit militia or build defensive towers. These towers will house archers that will rain down arrows on invaders if they walk into the tower’s range.
You can also build a wall around areas to stop the invaders from getting in. These invaders will often attack the walls, which gives your towers enough time to get the job done.
Recruiting Militia
To recruit militia, click on your outpost. There’s a recruit button here. Pressing the recruit button will shortly arrange for some militiamen. Once you’ve recruited your militia, the number of fighters will be deducted from the total number of civilians present on the island.
The civilian numbers will gradually grow again as more immigrant ships visit your city. It is recommended to keep the militia men always ready, unless you urgently need some more hands in your city. You can then disband the militia, and the citizens will return to their homes and local jobs.
Building Towers
You can unlock guard towers from the Favor Menu in the temples. As your city grows and you make more offerings, you’ll be able to build better towers and walls.
Now, you have to place these towers in your city. The area protected by the towers is highlighted at the time of placing these towers. Furthermore, you’ll need gold to build the towers.
You can get gold by building a tax office in your city. The tax office collects gold from residential buildings in the nearby area.
Once you’ve got both the militiamen and the guard towers ready, you won’t have to fear any invaders.
