Possessor(s), a side scroller with immensely packed combat, has recently been released. While the game doesn’t really do anything new, it offers a fun experience. For more information, head over to its Steam page.
As it is a side scroller, there will be plenty of platforming. Combat is also one of its main aspects, so you will have to fight many enemies and bosses. You can also get lost quite easily. To help you have a better start in Possessor(s), I will share some of my advanced tips and tricks for beginners.

Explore Thoroughly

You should keep in mind that the world in Possessor(s) is interconnected, which is usually the case in most metroidvanias. Initially, you will notice some areas that are inaccessible to you. These can be accessed once you have the relevant abilities, which can be found later in the game.
You may have noticed some wall-shaped platforms on the ground that can be destroyed. The ability for this is Dive Breaker, which you can get in the Fluorescent Park. So, make sure to return to earlier places and explore to get more items. Since the world is interconnected, you can go back to the initial areas as many times as you want.
Use You Map More Often

This might seem like one of the most common tips in Possessor(s), but believe me, using your map is essential. You may get lost, and it can become difficult to keep track of where you are. That is where the map comes in handy. Make sure to use it whenever you feel lost or want to keep track of your location.
After talking to an NPC or an important character, if you are assigned a task, it will be marked on your map. You will be able to see the entire route to that location, which helps a lot. While you can uncover areas on the map manually by exploring them, you can also get a map for a specific area from the subway station.
Whip Is One Of The Most Important Abilities

The first ability you get in the game is Whip, and it is one of the most important abilities, if not the most important one. This is because you will need it for a lot of platforming. If you can’t seem to find a way forward, look for a shiny circle to use your ability on.
If you are lost, try looking for a path above you; most of the time, you will need to use the Whip to progress. That said, the Whip isn’t only useful for movement; you can also use it in combat. There are many annoying flying enemies, especially the skulls and books. You can use the Whip to pull them toward you and then attack. This is the most efficient way to defeat them.
Choose Your Weapon According To Your Playstyle

As combat is one of the main aspects of the game, I would recommend choosing your weapon carefully. There are quite a few weapon options to choose from. Initially, you will be given Kitchen Knives, which are fast and efficient. If you prefer fast-paced combat, then this weapon is perfect for you.
However, you can also get a Baseball Bat and a Guitar. Both are heavy weapons, with the latter being my favorite. The Baseball Bat has wide swings and is a fun weapon to use, especially in the mid-game areas. The Guitar, on the other hand, is super fun because it has special moves. You can charge it and even perform a powerful ground slam.
In addition, there are some special weapons you can find while exploring. Utilize them as much as possible. They may seem to have limited use, but during combat, you can actually use them infinitely since normal attacks restore their charge.
Upgrade Your Weapon And Utilize The Affixes

You can upgrade your weapons in Possessor(s), so make sure to do that. They won’t deal more damage with each upgrade, but you will unlock more affix slots, which come in very handy. Affixes give you additional advantages, and there are many of them scattered throughout the game.
So, upgrade your weapons to get more slots and use the affixes you want to enhance your experience. You can also buy several affixes from an NPC you encounter just before meeting Tens for the second time.
Master The Parry

Parrying has always been one of my favorite mechanics in any game, and the same goes for Possessor(s), which is exactly why it’s one of the tips I’m mentioning. In this game, you can literally parry anything. It doesn’t matter what the attack is; you can parry it. If it’s a projectile, you can even parry it to repel the attack.
Also, parrying isn’t that hard. The timing window isn’t huge, but it’s not brutal either. There are some enemies that you’ll need to parry to deal damage or defeat, so learning this mechanic is essential. You can also get a special weapon called Glasses, which helps you parry more efficiently.
The Glasses have a pretty generous parry window, so even if you activate it slightly before the enemy attacks, you’ll be safe. That said, it has three charges, and if you use it while a boss is in the middle of a combo, you might get hit. This happens because your character automatically counterattacks after parrying.
Utilize Your Heals Effectively

Heals in this game are pretty limited, and enemies in this game hit like a truck. There are very few rest points in some areas, such as the Fluorescent Park, so upon death, you’ll have to make a pretty long journey again. This can get quite annoying if you keep dying repeatedly, so don’t be afraid to use your heals.
However, wait for your health bar to blink red before using them, as that’s the ideal time to heal.
That is pretty much it about my advanced tips and tricks guide for beginners in Possessor(s).
