Road to Vostok is a first-person single-player shooter where you must survive in the border zone between Russia and Finland. The game tasks you with clearing three different areas, with the final one being the most challenging.
For more information about the game, you can head over to its Steam page.
Before you begin, you should bear in mind that Road to Vostok is a game that does not hold your hand at all. It does not even properly explain how to shoot. You might expect the shooting mechanics to be similar to those of other first-person shooters. However, that is not the case here.
In this guide, we delve into exactly how to shoot in Road to Vostok so you can avoid early frustration.
How To Shoot With Your Weapon

You may have already tried firing your weapon and noticed that it did not work. This is because the mechanics in this game are quite different from what most players are used to. You cannot simply equip a gun and start shooting right away. So, you will need to approach things a bit differently.
Even if you have bullets in your inventory, that alone is not enough to fire your weapon.
What you need to do is manually load the bullets into your gun. If you are using a shotgun for example, you will need to select the shells with your mouse and drag them over to the weapon.
Once you do this, the shells will be loaded into the shotgun, allowing you to fire it properly.

If this method is not ideal for you, then simply keep the bullets in your inventory. While holding the gun in your hands, press the CTRL key and then press the right mouse button. By doing this, your character will automatically load bullets into the weapon.
Keep in mind that this method does not work for weapons that use a magazine. If you are using another type of weapon, such as a pistol or a machine gun, there is an additional step involved. These weapons use magazines, so you will first need to load the bullets into a magazine.
After that, you must attach the magazine to the gun before you can fire it. This extra step might feel a bit overwhelming at first, especially for new players, but it adds a strong sense of realism and helps the game stand out due to its unique mechanics.
Exceptions

There are some exceptions to this system. In certain situations, you may find weapons that are already loaded. This can happen when you defeat an enemy and pick up the weapon they were using. If the weapon still has ammunition in it, you may be able to fire it immediately without needing to reload it yourself.
Also, do keep in mind that you will need to add bullets to the magazine you have in the inventory. This is because when you reload your gun, your character will use that magazine from the inventory.
That is everything you need to know about shooting in Road to Vostok. The game can feel quite difficult and even overwhelming at times, especially in the beginning. However, after spending some time with it, you will gradually get used to the mechanics and start having a much smoother experience.
