Screamer: 6 Best Tips and Tricks

Screamer Tips and Tricks

Screamer is a high-octane racing game with anime aesthetics and fighting mechanics that feel nostalgic if you have ever played a racing game in an arcade. If this is your first time hearing about the game, check out its Steam page to learn further about its story and how the world works.

Given that Screamer has fighting mechanics, racing through the tracks can get quite messy. To help you with this, we’ll provide you with the best tips and tricks to win against your friends in co-op races and the story’s Screamer Tournament flawlessly.

1: Brake Excels The Accelerator

Horishi, Frederic, and Roisin – The Green Serpents.

Whether it is in Screamer or real life, you should know when to let go of the accelerator. Some tracks in the game comprise numerous tight turns that would result in a significant speed loss if crashed into. Since the game comes with two sticks, Movement and Drift, controlling them simultaneously can be a pain when you’re focused on the race.

Mastering the brakes in a racing game is one of the most critical tips to win efficiently. If you go too fast, the car will go off balance and either skid away or lock up whenever you try to make turns. Since Screamer simulates weight transfer between reverse and acceleration, learning when to brake is the top priority.

When approaching a tight turn on the track, slow the car down and approach it. Hold the brake button, and don’t let go of the directional and drift inputs; keep them in the same direction. With this, you will be able to cross tight turns without any hiccups. Still, maintaining the balance between accelerating and braking is a must during the tedious races.

2: Cold Entrances, Hot Exits

Racing Through The Underpass.

Various tracks in Screamer have narrow entrances and exits that result in sticky situations whenever you enter or exit them. This is not limited to this game only, but a universal rule for the entire racing genre. When you’re approaching a corner, slow down and wait until you reach the middle of it.

Drop the brakes and hit the gas to exit it as fast as you can. Since Screamer introduces an Active Shift system, utilizing it at the end of the gear’s acceleration will reward you with a speed boost along with a nitrous bar. Change gears with the AS system and boost all the way through to get ahead of almost everyone.

3: Racing Lines – When to Brake, When to Turn, and When to Run.

An Illustration to Understand Racing Lines.

This is going to get a bit nerdy, but for a better understanding of the Racing Lines, I have added an illustration above. Racing Lines show what’s the perfect time to cut through corners, and what to do at the beginning, at the turn, and at the exit. The first line is the Braking Point, followed by the turning point and the innermost corner of a tight turn called the Apex.

Understanding them is crucial to win, as well as to show off your skills. Making a turn at the apex at the right time is important, as better timing will reward you with significant acceleration whenever you exit the corner. Go to Screamer’s arcade mode and practice it in racing; check the illustration for clarification on the timing for each point. Finally, at the exit, full throttle your way out.

4: Smoother Inputs Equal Smoother Driving

Driving Near The Stadium.

I can’t emphasize smoother inputs enough; it is the most important tip you will ever hear for Screamer. Due to the weight-shifting system, any sudden, unintentional movement can cause a significant loss in speed and might cause the car to crash into a barricade. Smooth driving is the key to maintaining a perfect grip on the track.

For smoother inputs, be patient and gradual whenever you make a turn. Ease the throttle when the time’s right, and slowly release the brakes. If you’re on the controller, then braking and accelerating become easier. Still, every one of Screamer’s cars has different stats, and not all have similar grips.

The key takeaway for smoother inputs is: be gradual and deliberate in all of your actions. Practicing smoother inputs will make you stable in races and help you maintain composure even on the hardest tracks.

5: Watch and Learn

Sometimes, learning the surroundings and other characters during the race is enough to understand how to win. If you’re continuously faltering in races during the tournament or in multiplayer, it’s better to slow down and see how the opponents play. Yes, this doesn’t sound as feasible as the other tips, but believe me when I say this: remember the challenger’s pattern and adapt it; it works.

You can either adapt the challenger’s play style or go against it. However, adapting it to your own style is still easier said than done. So, don’t shy away from jumping into bot races and use whatever you have learned from your opponent. Practice, and then master it.

6: Track Knowledge is Priceless

Arcade Challenge.

Knowing a track in Screamer is just as important as learning how your car works. Remembering when and how tight corners and sharp turns appear will provide you with an upper hand. With this, you will rely less on reactions and anticipate what is coming next.

Focus on visual markers like kiosks, buildings, or anything that catches your eye to set a reminder to judge consistently when to pull the handbrake and accelerate. With practice, you will ultimately learn the rhythm of a track, which will allow you to drive more confidently, as you will now know the right strategies to overcome hurdles.

These are all our tips and tricks for playing Screamer with skill. However, you won’t be able to execute them effectively unless you practice with bots.
