Prioritize Health Before Attacks

At the start of your runs, don’t go chasing after big damage numbers or combos because you’ll get them later on, before you face tougher enemies. Instead, focus on building up food cards that can heal you during battle, especially toasties.
You can’t exactly block attacks during your early game, so you’ll have to tank through a lot of the incoming damage. This is where your food will come in clutch because it will allow you to heal whilst simultaneously focusing on the offensive.
Additionally, if you manage to get special upgrade cards for health, don’t let the opportunity go away. Pick as many health buffs as you can so you can maximize your total life before progressing further into the dungeon. The bloodthirsty butcher card is really useful as it heals a little bit of your health after defeating an enemy in the game.
Exploration Cards Are Important

Don’t forget to focus on your exploration deck as you’re playing through Shroom and Gloom. Both the exploration and the combat decks are equally important, but you need to give extra care to building your cards for exploration.
You should never run out of items like shovels, keys, flashlights, and campsites for safe exploration. You’ll also need any source of ignition that you can get your hands on to light torches and campfires. This allows you to rest at multiple points in your journey.
Upgrade Combat Cards

At a point in your run, you will get to decide between three different upgrade cards for your combat card. You should go for the practice dummy card, which increases the raw damage of your attacks. Next, increase the damage of a combat card that turns enemies into food.
Increase the damage of the said card at your campsite and keep it as the main offense of your combat deck. You’ll increase your offensive power in the right way by upgrading attacks that also lead to heals.
Understanding Combat Encounters

Multiple enemies will attack you during each combat encounter in the game. Focus on the signs on top of each enemy and learn which enemy is going to attack you on the next turn, which is going to stay on the defensive, and which is going to do nothing at all.
In that order, try to take out enemies starting with the ones that are guaranteed to damage you on the next turn. Additionally, cards that apply vulnerability are extremely useful, especially on tougher enemies. Stronger enemies should be dealt with vulnerability first and then a barrage of your attacks.
Forget Weak Cards

Later on in your runs, the game gives you an option to forget a card of your choice, essentially removing it from your deck. Use this opportunity to unlearn a weak combat card that just ends up wasting a turn in battle. Having the correct set of cards spawn in your hand plays an important role in winning. You wouldn’t want to draw something that you can’t even use in fights anymore.
The Optimal Strategy

For your initial runs, focus on creating a versatile exploration deck and get as many health upgrades as you can. Don’t put too much thought into the combat deck early on; you’ll find plenty of attacks later on. Increase the chances of your survival through exploration and upgrades.
Learn to fight groups of enemies in the right order by focusing on foes that tend to deal the most damage first. Start following these strategies, and you’ll make quick progress in the game in no time.
