Exploration Is Important
Most of the bosses in this game are hidden behind various events scattered around the map. The same can be said for weapons, armor, and upgrade materials. These locations are not directly marked by checkpoints, but you can spot them around the map near your base camp.
Every time you unlock a new hub area, you should explore all of the ruins and villages near this newly unlocked fast-travel point. This allows you to progress naturally, and this is actually what the game intends you to do. Otherwise, you’ll run into bosses later, which will seem a little too powerful for you to take on.
Sword And Shield
There are multiple weapon classes in The Relic: First Guardian; however, you’ll start your journey off with the sword and shield. This weapon is pretty good for your early game, and it works out well later too if you invest some upgrades into it.
Enemies have fast movesets, and you can not always dodge through everything. The shield allows you to block effectively if you’re not too good at parrying and does not consume a lot of your stamina compared to other weapons. The sword itself has a swift moveset, and by unlocking skills, you can deal damage equivalent to heavy weapons through it.
Collect Ancient Relic Power
You can find Ancient Relic Power scattered throughout the world; it is the blue flame that you can come across in various ruins. Try to find as much of this item as you can every time you unlock a new hub area.
Collecting this item allows you to unlock skills for your weapons. Skills that increase your health and stamina are also obtained through this, and there is no other way to level up yourself in the game. Make sure to always stay on the hunt for more relic power.
Overcoming Roadblocks
If you get stuck on a boss, then don’t try to brute force your way through. The map is filled with multiple locations for you to explore and get stronger.
So if you feel like a boss is too difficult for you, don’t get yourself stuck at a roadblock. Go out into the world, explore other ruins and dungeons to try to level up your combat abilities or to find more powerful weapons for your adventure.
Environmental Status Effects
Aside from your weapon and your relic damage, something that is going to help you out a lot in boss battles is the environmental damage. It is a double-edged sword that can hurt you as well, but when used against bosses, it can turn the tide of battle.
You can find barrels of fire, ice, and other status effects inside multiple boss arenas, which can be blown to spread the said effect on the ground. You can bait bosses through these effects to try to inflict them on them. Some boss battles will have fire on the ground by default, and you can actually use it against the bosses by baiting them.
The Optimal Playstyle
The Relic: First Guardian is quite different from other Soulslike titles in the sense that stamina is only tied to defense and your attacks do not consume it. Additionally, parrying attacks will further reduce the consumption of stamina when you’re on the defensive.
You should always stay on the offensive because it does not consume stamina. Try to get in hits wherever you can, as it is possible to attack in between combos if you’re parrying.Â
Additionally, your weapon skills are really important as well. They are used to deal the maximum amount of damage when an opponent is staggered. No matter which weapon you decide to main, always invest in its skills first and foremost.
