Ultimate Starter Guide to The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410

The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410 offers you much more freedom than you may think for its medieval time frame. You can create businesses, develop a dynasty, have romances, engage in politics, tamper with laws, choose various professions, or become a robber.

The most important thing is to understand the interrelation of all those mechanics. The business will provide money, money will bring reputation, reputation will open the gates, and the dynasty will allow everything that you created to live on.

The guide includes all important mechanics and tactics that were learned through the tutorial and initial gameplay sessions.

Getting Started

This tutorial starts in Herle, which is an armed fortification in the Duchy of Brabant. This is a good way to learn how to play Europa 1410 in a secure environment before you move to another city.

During your first game, you can select the following victory conditions:

  • Free Mode: Victory condition absent.
  • Office: Become elected to rank six office.
  • Renown: Get 100 renown.
  • Nobleman: Obtain the Nobleman title.
  • Wealth: Obtain 200,000 wealth.

In addition to that, there is a selection of the dynasty background. The possible backgrounds include the following options: House of Old Grudges, Free Spirits, Fallen House, Family Craft, Marriage Strategists, New Money, Old Blood, Opportunists, and Survivors Blood.

There are certain bonuses for every background. The Old Blood gives some additional customer appeal, and provides the dynasty with an additional renown bonus. Renown means the respect of your dynasty within the whole city. You can pass this status to future generations, become more persuasive and obtain higher respect from people. But sometimes it may provoke the rivalry from other players, criminals and so on.

Your character has a starting profession along with some properties too. During the tutorial, the profession offered is that of the Smith, who owns a smithy making metal products, tools, and weapons. The smithy can also set up iron bars at the window for better security purposes.

The tutorial character starts with the following properties:

  • A house
  • A smithy
  • A town hall
  • Marketplace access
  • Starting cart
  • Some money

Your appearance, name, dynasty name, crest, gender, and portrait can also be customized by the game.

Learn the Interface Before You Start Spending

Europa 1410 contains a lot of information, and the tooltip system is one of the easiest ways to understand it.

Hover over highlighted text and icons to reveal additional information. You can middle-click a tooltip to lock it in place. Locked tooltips remain interactive, allowing you to hover over highlighted terms within them and continue drilling down into the mechanics.

To dismiss locked tooltips, left-click.

The game’s item management also relies heavily on left-clicking:

  • Left-click an item to pick up one unit.
  • Keep clicking with a short pause to add additional units.
  • Double-click to pick up an entire stack.
  • Click and hold, then drag left or right to select a specific quantity with the slider.
  • Left-click again to place the item in an inventory slot or trade it at the marketplace.
  • Right-click to cancel an operation and return the item or worker to its previous location.

Workers use the same basic system. Select a worker from the resting bench with a left-click, then left-click a task to assign them. To remove a worker from a task, select them and then click the resting bench.

Items can be stacked, making large quantities of resources easier to move.

Build Your Business Around Your Profession

Your career is what defines how you earn money at first, but in Europa 1410, you have the option of pursuing different careers in time. Businesses provide money, expertise, assets, and fame. Make sure to assign people to produce goods, obtain the necessary resources for the job, sell produced items, and invest money in the business itself.

It is important to take into account the energy level of your workers because it is linked to productivity. Tired workers should be allowed to rest and should not be pushed into working harder. Assign workers according to their skills. This way, a worker that is suited for a certain job will work better and have fewer accidents.

The Blacksmith

The blacksmith is the simplest profession to pursue. Initially, you need just a few materials. Indeed, iron ingots can do the work for you since the short sword costs significantly more than simple items like silver rings, despite a simpler production line. Even when you get into advanced blacksmithing, concentrating on one lucrative item will still prove useful.

The smithy will also gain access to further means of production, such as:

  • Fittings
  • Silver chains
  • Long swords
  • Male armor
  • Full plate

Some advanced items need professional skill mastery first.

The Alchemist

In contrast, the alchemist works in a different way because employees can harvest plants, without the requirement for you to buy everything from the market place. This will definitely cut down on resource costs, but harvesting will be more time-consuming compared to purchasing all the required items directly. The production of bombs is an easy way of earning money, since you just need to buy iron ingots while employees harvest the other resources. Thus, an efficient alchemist campaign can help earn money very fast.

The Innkeeper

The innkeeper is the most diverse and complicated among the professions. Contrary to the blacksmith and alchemist, the innkeeper greatly profits from keeping several different items. It all depends on one significant difference that consists of selling through one’s shop. One can employ a skilled negotiator who will be selling the items in the shop at prices much higher than usual market prices. This is why the innkeeper relies on keeping an attractive shop.

Manage Your Workers Properly

Amongst the qualities that your workers possess are skills, health, energy, opinion, and experience.

The relevant skills are:

  • Negotiation
  • Handicraft
  • Rhetoric
  • Roguery
  • Marshall

Of the above skills, handicraft is especially important for the smithy, as workers with high handicraft skills tend to be more productive. Different workers also have different costs of hiring. The more skilled a worker, the more he will ask in terms of salary.

Salary and Treatment

Your business gives you control over both the salary of the workers and their treatment. A proven method, used in the beginning part of the game, is to give a maximum salary at the very start. This will increase costs by around 200 gold per day, but it will improve the worker opinion sufficiently for you to focus on the treatment aspect. The treatment impacts the productivity of the worker and also the employee opinion. The use of hard treatment will increase the productivity of the worker, although it will reduce the worker opinion of the employer. You can temporarily improve treatment for a day and then lower it again, allowing you to manage the relationship between productivity and employee opinion.

If employee opinion becomes too low, workers may eventually leave.

Train and Mentor Workers

The workers can be trained by clicking on their portraits using the right mouse button and then selecting the option “Train Skill”. Training will cost not only money but also energy. Training in one skill costs 40 gold, and it also uses up energy of the worker and character. There is another way to train your employees through mentoring. Each mentoring costs 200 experience points, and promotion demands significantly more. For instance, the worker that was mentored demanded 6,000 experience points to get promoted.

However, workers also accumulate experience in their current profession as time goes by. You will be able to promote the experienced workers in the future.

Energy can make or break your turn

Energy is one of your key resources.

The energy of your character is spent on the following actions:

  • Management of workers
  • Maintenance of buildings
  • Teaching workers
  • Courtship
  • City affairs
  • Other personal actions
  • Fights

Energy restores slowly and with greater amount at the start of the next day. When the amount of your energy drops to zero, you fall down. With the help of the endurance drink, you can recover from that condition, whereas better beds will enhance the energy restoration process. As there are many systems that require energy and compete for that resource, you should decide on what you want to achieve beforehand.

For example, management of your workers will make them work 20% more efficient, but will cost you 25 energy. Spending almost all of your energy for achieving that momentary improvement when you have approximately 30 energy left will not be a good choice. That rule works for courtship and teaching as well – they both require considerable amounts of energy.

Upgrade Your Business Early

Improvements for your business are one of the most beneficial things that you can invest in.

There are many ways to improve your business, which include:

  • Security improvements
  • More shelf space
  • More storage
  • More productivity
  • Improve customer appeal
  • Sales facility
  • Safety improvements
  • Unlock more production

These improvements will not only improve your business but also make it worth more. As a result, you will be able to climb up the social ladder. Upon reaching the third level of mastery in any occupation, you will be able to upgrade the very building you are working in. This will give you the opportunity to do even better improvements, such as hiring an extra worker, expanding the facilities even further and unlocking a whole new range of products.

Never Ignore Building Integrity

Your buildings become dilapidated with normal use. When the integrity of the buildings becomes worse, then not only does the value of the property decline but so does its performance. Poor integrity thus adversely affects your prospects for upward social mobility. Maintenance is an easy way to regain integrity and increase the value of the property. Small repairs can be done manually using energy or for a fee of gold without expending any of your own energy. You gain +10 integrity from small repairs and save on bigger costs in the future with maintenance. Carts are similar to buildings in that regard.

Upgrade Your Carts as Soon as Possible

The initial cart is a goat cart with one slot for goods. This limitation soon becomes a problem, since travel does take time. Using one cart to go back and forth for resources can easily take a few hours. Donkey cart offers two slots, giving you the possibility to carry either two different resources, or two lots of the same resource in one journey. One can buy other carts as well. In the example above, after spending 500 gold on a second cart, you are able to have one cart waiting at the marketplace and another going to the business.

Cart can be used to transport:

  • Resources to the businesses
  • Products to the marketplace
  • Goods between locations

It can also be left behind at some location while you are preparing its load. Before you start transporting any valuable goods through the city, consider getting an escort. Unprotected carts are very susceptible to being attacked by bandits, though the best escorts won’t be able to protect you if the goods carried are too tempting.

Escort stays with your cart for a limited number of turns.

Buy From the Right Place

There is a wide range of goods that can be found in the marketplace, although it is not always the most economical place. The resource centers located on the outskirts of the city may sell their raw materials at 10–30% less than the marketplace does. That is why it can be profitable to buy directly from the mines or any other resources when you have time and possibility to do so. When it comes to the finished or intermediary goods, you can take advantage of the other companies’ stores. When you purchase from the marketplace, you should pay attention to the dynamics of supply and demand.

Understand Supply, Demand, Laws and Seasons

It is important to note that the value and supply of the goods change.

There are several things that may affect the market:

  • Supply and demand
  • Change in seasons
  • City laws
  • Wars
  • World events

There are also temporary events that can lead to peculiar situations. Watch out for fairs and traveling merchants. There is also the direct impact of the law on business. Some products can be forbidden to sell because of the laws.

Use Your Storefront

All your products do not have to go through the market. There may be occasions when your own shop can provide you with a premium. The customers can be lured to your business by the charm of the business, and good service, scarce products, and contraband can help you earn more money.

For selling any product from your shop, all you need to do is bring it out of the store room and keep it in your shop. The business needs to lure the customers in time and again, which makes it important that the shop should never be empty. The innkeeper can extend this idea by hiring a negotiator who can sell the products for more money.

Keep Your Production Chain Moving

A company cannot produce goods without materials. If your employees get out of materials, production is halted. Move the carts from your company to the marketplace and watch your material stocks before the end of production comes. This happens especially well in the smithy, where you need iron and silver for making silver rings, iron for making fittings, and more materials for the weapons of a higher level. With proper planning of the production process, your workers will not stand idly waiting for new shipments of materials.

Also, you can send an empty cart to the marketplace to buy the materials while your workers will be making goods from your current stocks. Then the finished goods can be put on that cart or another one and taken to the marketplace.

Taxes Are Part of the Business

By the end of the year, you would have to worry about taxes and other compulsory fees.

These could be any of the following:

  • Sales tax
  • Church tithe
  • Inheritance tax
  • And other fees prescribed by the city

Failure to pay these may even result in imprisonment and finding a way to recover from it. Take care of your year-end balance rather than relying on the gross sales of your business as your real net worth.

Your House Is More Important Than It Looks

You start out with a house, and it’s not just for show. Your house will have its own upgrade and expandability system like your business, except the benefits of which revolve around your own character and dynasty. Early investments in your house can give you some useful upgrades.

Spyglass

A spyglass allows you to spy on others and possibly find evidence of them so that you can sue them for gold. You can hire professionals through a hideout to collect evidence of their crimes. After you have evidence, you can sue them in town hall.

Energy Improvements

Upgrades in your house allow you to raise your maximum energy as well as energy gain after the start of each new day. Because energy affects so many of your personal actions, upgrades in this area can make quite a difference.

Skills

Your house can also give you some more skills that you can train.

Sanitation

You can have a wash station in your house to improve sanitation in your district. These upgrades are not expensive and can benefit you for the rest of your game.

Build Your Dynasty

Money and businesses are not the only things to be concerned about in the Guild. If you wish to leave your legacy beyond your lifespan, you should have a family. It is the game that urges you to look for a spouse, give birth to heirs, and train them to receive the wealth and the burden from you.

Finding a Spouse

The matchmaking fair provides you with possible candidates. You choose someone and then start courtship. After that, you go to a private section of the park to deal with your potential spouse.

While looking for a spouse, you must take into account the following factors:

  • Age
  • Health
  • Wealth
  • Skills
  • Bloodline
  • Fertility
  • Others

Strong or exceptional bloodline ensures the possibility of giving birth to heirs with skills. Better health indicates higher fertility. “Marrying down” is cheaper, whereas “marrying up” is more expensive. The process of courtship is a competition. Other characters try to court the same person, and postponing too much means losing the chosen one.

Winning a Courtship

The courtship mechanism follows your progress in winning the hand of your beloved.

You can make progress by doing the following:

  • Giving gifts
  • Flattering the person you like
  • Going to the lovers’ corner
  • Other courtship actions

Flattery involves rhetoric, making it an important skill for the romance aspect of the game. Gifts require money.

When you go to the lover’s private corner, you will select your chosen partner to interact with. You can come and go as you please until the person marries you or any other suitor. The aim is to fill the courtship bar before anyone else does. Following a successful courtship, the marriage occurs the following turn.

Children and Inheritance

Marriage allows children to enter the dynasty, although the number and timing of births depend on factors including fertility, marital activity, and how much attention you devote to other activities. Another aspect of the game involves adoption of orphans, which may help you secure the future of the dynasty. Inheritance will determine who takes charge after your character dies. First in line to succeed is the spouse, followed some time later by the oldest child who must be at least 14 years old. There is the option of selecting another eligible member of the family to be your successor. Don’t wait till the last minute to get that successor ready. Make sure your successor is prepared from early enough.

Climb the Social Ladder

Your status in the game is dictated by wealth and fame.

Game Titles go from:

  • Commoner
  • Burgher
  • Patrician
  • Nobleman
  • Baron
  • Count
  • Duke
  • Prince
  • Prince of the Empire

Titles represent hereditary positions with their rights and obligations. Your title may even dictate who you can woo. For instance, a commoner will find it difficult to court someone far above his station socially. Old Blood dynasty’s starting renown can be helpful at the start.

Enter Politics

Government is yet another source of power. One can hold political office while still running his businesses. There are nine ranks of government office, and you have to start from rank one before advancing to others. Vertical movement in the hierarchy is possible, but lateral movement into other positions at the same rank is not possible. You have to first resign from your current position if you want to switch positions at the same rank. Government offices offer at least daily pay, but high ranks give far more powerful rights than low ranks.

From your rank, you will get the following capabilities:

  • Control districts
  • Use the treasury of the city for constructions
  • Improve the city
  • Affect laws
  • Appoint lower ranks

The political power might also work directly in combination with your profession. For instance, a politician may make certain illegal item usage legal. However, the most important part is that you can apply for higher ranks of government office immediately after obtaining the office.

Becoming Eligible

You have to become a citizen in order to get elected. Citizenship needs 20,000 gold of personal value. Elections happen during the next turn once the eligible citizens apply for it. The possibility of getting appointed or elected depends on several factors such as your rhetoric skills and the good opinion of the one appointing you. Thus, high political aims call for preparation instead of applying for any position that becomes available.

Laws Can Change Your Entire Strategy

City laws influence both your day-to-day life and business ventures.

The illustrated legal framework had limitations on some of the following activities:

  • Blackmail
  • Perfume
  • Threats
  • Theft
  • Witchcraft
  • Potions
  • Books
  • Lampoons

Hence, some activities can be considered illegal even though they may present good opportunities otherwise. You can interact with the legal framework through a variety of means. Obey the laws, take advantage of loopholes, collect evidence against other characters, or get into politics and try changing the laws yourself. Moreover, your individual actions may overlap with criminal and evidence systems.

Explore More Than Your Profession

Just because you begin with one job, that doesn’t mean that you must stay with the same for all of your life. Guild Houses can be used to increase training and provide new professions to choose from.

Also, there are places related to other actions in the game such as:

  • Smithies
  • Alchemist labs
  • Barracks
  • Churches
  • Graveyards
  • Hideouts
  • Traveling circus camps

This gives a lot of opportunities for completely different playing styles. For instance, the tutorial introduces you into the smithing profession, but there is a possibility to try other professions and become an outlaw later on.

Pay Attention to Action Points

The time goes on as you control the city. Your workers follow business hours, as in the example of the smithy, which works between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. There are several options for changing the pace of the game, so that you can speed up the process of the game at those times when there is nothing important going on.

You may control game speed by pressing number keys. But due to real-time traveling, speeding up the clock will not help to avoid the costs of sending carts a long way.

Pay Attention to Action Points

Energy isn’t the only resource governing your personal actions. Certain activities need action points, and one gets one free action point per turn. This can be explained by looking at courtship. Courtship starts by spending an action point; therefore, one must take care to consider what he or she needs to achieve on that turn. Do not waste action points where another activity is important.

Don’t Waste Time on Long Trips

Moving from your place of business to the marketplace to the resources will take time. The time required for a cart to move between close places could be an hour, whereas longer movements will take multiple hours. Transportation management becomes extremely significant in this regard. Use of the second cart, the bigger cart, and proper planning could save you time. As the marketplace closes, calculate the time left for moving before dispatching your cart.

Random Events Can Test Your Character

Not every opportunity deserves to be taken. A random occurrence led to the presence of an half-openpurse on the road, which seemed to be loaded with cash. It was a risky proposition. In the past, an earlier victim had come across the same type of opportunity but it turned out to be a trap for thugs. What needs to be noted here is that even free money comes at a price. Your character’s actions outside the business environment can thus go beyond your financial well-being.

Tips and Tricks

If you only remember a handful of things from your first few turns, remember these:

  • Energy is a strategic resource. Don’t spend it simply because an action is available.
  • Workers need the right skills. Match people to tasks whenever possible.
  • Keep workers supplied. Empty shelves mean idle workers.
  • Train and mentor early. Experienced employees become more valuable as your business expands.
  • Upgrade your business quickly. Improvements increase productivity, value, and future opportunities.
  • Repair everything. Building and cart integrity directly affects your operation.
  • Upgrade your cart. The starting goat cart’s single slot becomes a serious bottleneck.
  • Buy directly from resource sites when practical. Raw materials can cost 10–30% less than at the marketplace.
  • Watch market conditions. Supply, demand, seasons, laws, and wars can all change prices.
  • Use your storefront. Direct sales can generate better prices than the marketplace.
  • Keep money available for taxes and wages. A profitable business can still run into financial trouble if you ignore recurring expenses.
  • Develop your house. Personal upgrades can improve energy, skills, sanitation, and intelligence-gathering options.
  • Start courtship early if you want a dynasty. Romance competes with your other uses of energy, money, and action points.
  • Prepare your heir. Your empire is only as secure as the next generation’s ability to inherit it.
  • Politics takes preparation. Citizenship requires 20,000 gold in personal value, and offices form a nine-level hierarchy.
  • Laws matter. They can determine which goods and activities you can legally pursue.
  • Don’t spread yourself too thin. The game offers many systems, but you don’t have to pursue all of them simultaneously.

The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410 connects business, wealth, politics, romance, crime, and dynasty into one evolving system. Your business funds your ambitions, your social standing unlocks new opportunities, and your house, spouse, and children shape your legacy.

You can forge very different paths, from wealthy merchant or master craftsman to politician, alchemist, innkeeper, investigator, or outlaw. Decide what legacy you want to leave, then make every turn count.
