Vampire Crawlers isn’t a game that holds your hand and runs you through every single mechanic. Instead, the game expects you to stumble your way through its dungeons and learn from your mistakes. You’ll run across new terms and systems that you’ll have to mess around with to understand how everything fits together.
Trigger is one such term you’ll come across whether on your run or when checking out your Crawlers or Arcana tabs in the Village. But like most things, the game doesn’t really explain how it works. In this guide, we’ll break down everything you need to know about Triggers in Vampire Crawlers and also give you a complete list of all the Trigger abilities currently available in the game.

How Does Trigger Work in Vampire Crawlers?

Trigger is a simple mechanic that basically means activating your Crawler’s Abilities with its matching Card. Each Crawler in the game comes with its own unique abilities that are “Triggered” when you play a specific color of card.
This isn’t the same as the effect you get for playing the Crawler Card itself. For instance, with Pugnala, you gain 20% Might when playing the card. Now, as long as the Pugnala is active, when you play a Yellow Card such as Spellbinder, Attractorb, or Candella, you’ll be able to draw a Card. This is the Crawler’s Trigger ability.
Similarly, the other Crawlers in the game feature different Triggers that activate when you play a card of their matching color. There are five different colored cards in the game:
- Red Cards: Typically consist of Attack Cards such as Whip, Knife, Holy Bible, etc.
- Yellow Cards: Mostly stat boosting cards such as Attractorb, Bracer, Clover, Crown, etc.
- Purple Cards: Cards that affect your Mana, such as the Tome Cards or Wings.
- Blue Cards: Armor Cards or Cards that heal you, such as Pummarola or Pummadora.
- Wild Cards: Special Cards with no Mana Cost that allow you to chain combos up or down, such as Friendship Amulet, Bracelet, etc.

Other than this, you can also come across specific Color Trigger Gems that will change the color of a Card to help you match it with your Crawler’s ability. When you’re building your deck, you’ll want to pick up cards that match the ability of your Crawlers so that you can trigger it multiple times during your turn.
