Vampires: Bloodlord Rising – Which Abilities To Unlock First

Using Wings of Night Ability Vampires Bloodlord Rising

Vampires: The Bloodlord Rising is a base builder, open-world RPG where your actions and choices matter. In this game, you play as Drago, whose aim is to return the vampires to their glory after a recent massive outburst. The choices you make as you progress are going to matter in this game, but as it is in early access at the time of this writing, there isn’t much content available. For more information regarding the title, head over to its Steam page.

As it is a choice-based RPG and a base builder on top of that, things can get complicated at times. There is also a pretty big skill tree, so unlocking which abilities to choose can be a little troublesome. There are some skills that can help you a lot in the early game as well as in the mid to late game. In this guide, you will learn which abilities you should unlock first in Vampires: Bloodlord Rising.

Disclaimer

This is not a ranking of the best abilities in Vampires: Bloodlord Rising. Instead, this is a list of abilities that can help you on your journey in the early game. You do not have to unlock all four abilities mentioned here, as they all require a lot of Vampire’s Tears. So, simply unlock the ones that you think will be the most beneficial for you. I personally like Wings of Night and Phantom the most, as they suit my playstyle very well. So, select the abilities that best suit your own playstyle.

Wings Of Night (Bat Transformation Ability)

Wings of Night Vampires Bloodlord Rising

Wings of Night is one of the best abilities to unlock early in Vampires: Bloodlord Rising. As a matter of fact, I consider it to be the best ability to unlock first. However, you cannot do that right away, as there is a skill tree system in place, so you need to unlock another ability before you can unlock Wings of Night.

Before you can get this ability, you will need to unlock either Charged Attack Damage or Charged Attack Time. Both are pretty good, so choose whichever you think will help you the most in combat. Once you have unlocked either one of them, Wings of Night will become available for you.

However, you will not be able to unlock it immediately, as it costs nine Vampire’s Tears, which, to be honest, is a lot. That said, Vampire’s Tears are not that hard to find, so I recommend focusing on collecting them and unlocking this ability first.

Wings of Night, while it consumes more blood, is extremely helpful. Sprinting to a location can become boring really soon, so flying there extremely fast not only saves time but is also pretty fun. You can use Shift to accelerate your speed, but do note that it will consume even more blood. That said, as you get more Vampire’s Tears, you will be able to make this ability even better.

Unlocking Gale Wings and Silent Wings will give more speed as well as reduce the blood consumption rate. The latter will also reduce the rate at which you are detected by enemies while in bat form.

Phantom (Stealth Ability)

Phantom Vampires Bloodlord Rising

Another extremely useful ability that will help you in the early game as well as the mid to end game is Phantom. This ability is so good that with it, you won’t have to fight overpowered inquisitors to get loot and the Vampire’s Tears. I recommend unlocking this as soon as possible.

Phantom makes you invisible and noiseless. It is basically a stealth ability that lets you infiltrate the enemy camp and get out without a scratch. However, the base version of this skill is not that appealing, because if you interact with a Vampire’s Tear, the ability will be canceled.

Furthermore, the duration of this ability is not that long, so you will have to be careful. That said, you can infiltrate an enemy base, interact with the tear, and then use the bat transformation to fly away.

While upgrading Phantom, you can further unlock Invisible Assassin and Invisible Thief. Invisible Assassin makes your charged attack way stronger and faster, but upon attacking, the ability will be canceled. Invisible Thief causes the ability to stay active even after you interact with things like a Vampire’s Tear.

Do note that to unlock Phantom, you will first need to unlock Max Existence. I highly recommend unlocking Max Existence, as if your existence drops to zero, your character dies, so having more of it is definitely helpful.

Scarlet Vortex (Survival Ability)

Not only do you need to focus on traversal or stealth in this game, but also survival, which is just as important, or perhaps even more so. The game does not punish you too harshly for dying a lot, but going back to the area you were in can become a chore and ruin your experience. Having strong survival abilities early on in the game is a big plus.

If you have unlocked the Max Existence skill, the other two abilities you can unlock are Phantom and Scarlet Vortex. As someone who is passionate about stealth, I recommend Phantom. However, if you have trouble finding animals for blood and do not want to hunt them every single time, you should absolutely go for Scarlet Vortex.

This ability is extremely useful and a huge time saver. It lets you absorb the blood of all the creatures that are nearby, and that blood will be purified. Other skills you can unlock to upgrade Scarlet Vortex are Vortex of Death and Vortex of Life.

Vortex of Death increases the damage dealt to the victims of Scarlet Vortex, and Vortex of Life increases the range of Scarlet Vortex, while also allowing you to drain even more blood when using this ability. The other skills are the standard ones, and once you get past those, you can unlock a couple of additional upgrades.

However, do note that you can either unlock Scarlet Vortex or Phantom in the early game, as unlocking both may be too optimistic. That said, if you do not go with Wings of Night, it is possible to unlock both.

Beast’s Vision (Survival Ability)

If you went with unlocking Phantom, then the ability you must unlock next is Beast’s Vision. This ability reveals the location of nearby creatures along with their blood type and highlights all of the objects you can interact with. Not only is this extremely useful for helping you find animals, but it also helps a lot with traversal.

This can help you greatly when you are low on blood, as you will not have to run around the area looking for animals. You can simply use this ability, and if there are no animals around you, return to the castle hill and then hunt for animals. The other abilities you can unlock after it are Rage Vision and Unbound Vision.

Rage Vision increases rage with each strike while Beast’s Vision is activated, and Unbound Vision increases the overall duration of Beast’s Vision.

The abilities on the right side of the skill tree aren’t available in the early access, so naturally, you won’t be able to unlock them. Even if they were unlocked, they would require more Vampire’s Tears than usual because each ability is linked to another, which in turn requires several abilities to be unlocked first. So, you should give priority to the ones that I have mentioned in this guide.
