Welcome to the Into Indie Games Advanced Player Guide for Voidling Bound.
On the surface, Voidling Bound seems to be a game that involves capturing strong creatures and taking them through progressively tougher challenges. This is partially true, but it doesn’t define success in the game.
Most players spend a lot of time trying to get a better creature, getting better statistics for a voidling, or improving their already favored one. However, none of these activities can solve the problem of progression.
Voidling Bound is not a game about having one powerful creature; it is rather a game about making smart choices.
The aim of this guide is to explain the relationships between all game mechanics in an effort to provide you with tools to make smart choices about voidlings, breeding, hatching, Abyss and other important features.

The Gameplay Loop
Most runs don’t fail because your Voidling is weak. They fail because your strategy is. Voidling Bound doesn’t test your monster so much as it tests your decision-making.
| What new players think | ||||||||||
| Stronger Voidling | → | More Damage | → | Win More Missions | ||||||
| What actually wins runs | ||||||||||
| Mission knowledge | → | Species selection | → | Good matchups | → | Breeding decisions | → | Target priority | → | Success |

The Roster
Many players force a single favorite Voidling into every mission. That might work early on, but it stops working later.
| Wrong Question | Better Question |
|---|
| Which Voidling do I like? | What does this mission punish? |
| Which one is strongest? | Which one fits the matchup? |
| How do I level my favorite? | Which tool solves this problem? |
Hatching
A weak hatch can still be valuable. Check the other factors.
