Balatro

2024’s first real indie sensation Balatro is a roguelike deckbuilder that riffs off poker, allowing you to play illegal hands by breaking the very rules of the game. With a variety of game-changing cards, including the many ‘Joker’ cards at hand, Balatro is easy to pick up and very, very hard to put down.

Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley
Platforms: PC, Switch
Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley puts you in the world of the Moomins, where you’ll play as wanderer Snufkin as he strives to find his best friend Moomintroll. Along the way, he’ll help out the residents of Moominvalley, while bringing down the parks that are disrupting Moominvalley’s natural beauty.

Anomaly Agent

Anomaly Agent is an action-platformer drenched in synthwave music and fluid, acrobatic combat. As Agent 70, it’s up to you to stop anomalies in this futuristic, cyberpunk world and battle through mobs of enemies.
It’s won acclaim for its smooth beat ’em up gameplay as well as its humorous and stylish world.
Go Mecha Ball

Why choose between being a mech and a ball when you can just do both? Go Mecha Ball is a twin-stick shooter with roguelite elements that gives you a variety of destructive abilities and lets you go ham in dynamic arena playgrounds.

Clem

Gothic yet cute, adventure game Clem has you exploring a run-down mansion to fulfill mysterious objectives and unraveling a dark mystery. With the aid of a notebook simply titled ‘Clem’, you’ll have to solve puzzles, craft enchanted toys, and uncover the truth behind your instructions.
Clem has been praised for its puzzle design as well as its dark story.

Solium Infernum

Solium Infernum tells you to go to hell, and then demands you take the throne by way of strategic gameplay and political intrigue. As one of the sinister archfiends of hell, you will have to patiently and intelligently direct your forces while also backstabbing your peers, all to fill the vacuum left by Satan’s disappearance.
Solium Infernum has won praise for its intricate strategy gameplay and its dark visual design.
Lil’ Guardsman
Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch
Lil’ Guardsman takes the decade-old formula of Lucas Pope’s Papers, Please; and applies it to a wacky fantasy set-up in which the guardsman you play is a 12-year-old. This unlikely hero will have to determine who to let into the kingdom, from humans to elves to goblins to cyclopes.
Lil’ Guardsman has acquired a lot of praise for its humorous concept and its deduction-based gameplay.
Ultros
Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5
With its brightly psychedelic visuals and unusually biological style, the Metroidvania-style action-platformer Ultros certainly knows how to make a first impression. Stuck in a cosmic uterus and trapped in a black hole-induced time loop, you’ll battle alien lifeforms while also tending to your extraterrestrial gardening.
Ultros has won acclaim for its unique visuals and experimental design.
Last Epoch

Whether your jam is Diablo or Path of Exile – if you’re into hack-and-slash action RPGs, you’d do well to pay attention to Last Epoch, in which you travel into the past to save the land of Eterra. The game promises detailed character customization and crafting, and the developers are committed to never adding pay-to-win elements.
Momodora: Moonlit Farewell
Platforms: PC
Momodora: Moonlit Farewell is the latest (and last) in the Momodora series of Metroidvania games, where you’ll play as High Priestess Momo, who is on a divine mission to save the villagers of Koho from being destroyed by demons.
The game has been praised for its pixel art visuals, its lean game design, and its well-balanced gameplay.
