Indie Dev Interview: Stories From The Outbreak From Coldwild Games

Stories From The Outbreak is pencilled in to land early 2023, we caught up with Vladamir the owner of Coldwild Games on the upcoming release and his background in games development.

Please introduce yourself?

My name is Vladimir, I am an owner of Coldwild Games, Latvian indie game studio of 7 people. I used to be a corporate software engineer, but have decided to quit my job and try my hand at game development.

And could you introduce your studio?

Coldwild Games have been making games for 6 years so far, and our ideas behind game development are as follows:

  • Experimentation with game genres: always add something new to the mix, even if it is a small detail.
  • No lootbox / casino mechanics masked as games.
  • Treat games as art aesthetically, but always put good gameplay first.
  • Try to make the world a better place, as impossible as it sounds

Can you tell us about your game?

Stories from the Outbreak is a turn-based zombie RPG. Lead a group of survivors from the doomed city of Riga towards the ferry sailing across the North Sea. Scavenge for supplies, fight the zombies, decide the fate of your crew.

We wanted to make an accent on survival in a polarized society, when the life of one person can depend on people that do not necessarily share their views or values.

Can you tell us about some of your creative decisions in development?

We really wanted the game to represent the Eastern/Northern European vibes as opposed to the usual apocalyptic settings. One interesting thing we hope to do is to have the character names in-game pronounced by the native speakers. There are weekly calls and monthly in-person meetings where we play the game and discuss the direction.

When is it out and how can people stay updated?

We don’t have the hard release date, but we hope to start early access in February 2023. The best way to follow our updates would be our twitter account, https://twitter.com/ColdwildGames 🙂
