Hades II: Release date, pre-order and everything we know
Hades II is the action-packed roguelike successor to Hades, marking Supergiant Games’ first sequel. Here’s everything we know about it.
Hades II release date and platforms
We do not presently have a full release date for Hades II, but the game has been announced for Early Access in the second quarter of 2024. Barring any delays, this means that you might be playing Hades II as early as April to June in 2024.
As the original Hades appeared in early access form in 2018 and then released in 2020, itโs safe to estimate that the sequel may release in 2025, or even 2026.
The early access launch of Hades II has so far only been announced for PC, where it will be available on Steam and Epic Games Store.
Going by the original gameโs spread of platforms, however, it is safe to assume that the full version of the game should release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
It is more unclear if the game will launch on the Nintendo Switch, given that that platform is approaching the end of its lifespan and rumors are afloat of a successor to the Switch. Also unclear is whether last generationโs consoles, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, will be supported.
Hades II physical editions
Hades II will initially be available online only, as it will be an Early Access release on Steam and Epic Games Store.
Given the gameโs popularity, however, we wouldnโt rule out a physical edition or two once the game appears on consoles.
Hades II pre-order
As the game will initially launch in early access form, there will presumably be no pre-order available for the gameโs PC version. Instead, you will be able to start playing it even while it is being developed by Supergiant Games.
We expect pre-orders to be available for console versions of the game, which may come towards the gameโs full release.
Hades II Trailer
Who is the protagonist of Hades II?
While the original Hades had you controlling Zagreus, the son of Hades and Persephone, the sequel will put you in the sandals of Melinoรซ, princess of the Underworld and sister to Zagreus.
In Greek mythology, Melinoรซ is an underworld goddess said to be the bringer of nightmares and madness.
What is the gameโs setting and plot?
As with the original game, Hades II is based on Greek mythology, and involves the protagonist Melinoรซ on a quest to slay Cronus, the Titan of Time. Aiding her in this adventure will be the goddess of witchcraft Hecate, and the game will explore the connections between the Greek Underworld and the dawn of witchcraft.
Not much else is known about the gameโs plot, other than that it will feature a roster of Olympian gods that includes Apollo, Zeus, Nemesis, and more. The game promises both new and returning faces, and the gameโs story will continue to progress and unfold despite your setbacks as you experience unique story events based on your gameplay.
What is Hades IIโs gameplay like?
Hades II appears to play very similarly to the first Hades, retaining that gameโs action-packed roguelike gameplay and isometric perspective. The game has been promised to be โendlessly replayableโ.
From what weโve learned of the gameplay, Melinoรซ will be able to infuse her weapons with ancient magick, apart from receiving boons from Olympian Gods to further enhance her abilities.
Melinoรซโs exploration of the Underworld will lead to new locations and upgrade systems as she goes. Apart from this, you will be able to tame โwitchy familiarsโ, gather reagents, and explore the mysteries of the Arcana Altar.
How long does it take to beat Hades II?
Thereโs no word on how long a run of Hades II is expected to be, but weโll be sure to update this page as soon as we find out. That said, being a roguelike game, Hades II will likely have you trying over and over again for many an hour before you beat it – and then encourage you to have a go all over again.
Will the game have multiplayer?
Hades II will not have multiplayer of any kind. It is a strictly singleplayer game.
Will the game have DLC?
No DLC or microtransactions have been announced for the game. Going by Supergiant Gamesโ track record, there will almost certainly be no DLC or microtransactions for the game even after launch.
What are Hades IIโs system requirements?
Supergiant Games has not announced system requirements for Hades II as of yet. We do not expect them to be substantially more demanding than the original Hadesโ system requirements, but you never know.
