The Signifier Walkthrough – Chapter 3

Stuck in The Signifier? This puzzle-focused walkthrough will guide you through the third chapter of the game, ‘The Two Catalysts’.

Welcome to the Into Indie Games walkthrough guide for The Signifier. This is a puzzle-focused guide to get you through the game, and it is not a story or achievement guide. As The Signifier is an adventure game, we encourage you to explore and investigate as much as possible and only consult this guide when you’re really stuck. Remember that when in a mind memory, you can also consult Evee for hints.

Chapter 3

The Two Catalysts

Talk to Evee and then in the Control Panel, visit the middle ‘memory’, which is actually a dream.

Proceed through the dream and interact with the warped ladder. After this, you will be able to use the timewarp freely within the dream.

Move the timewarp all the way to the left, so that the door near the ladder is open. Go through the door and into the shop(?), then look at the ladder.

Use the timewarp while looking at the ladder until the ladder is straight and proper. When you let go of the timewarp, Russell will ask Evee to fix the perspective.

Exit the shop(?), and remember to use the timewarp to open the door (don’t worry about the ladder now).

Use the ladder and go all the way up. Use the timewarp at the top of the ladder to make the two edges on the left very close to each other. Walk right over onto the other platform.

Proceed into the plaza, where you will have to fix perspective again. This time, walk over to the foot traffic of pedestrians that is blocking off one exit of the plaza. This is next to the restaurant(?) you can see to your right when you enter the plaza.

Stand approximately in the centre of the foot traffic, face the glitchy part of the dream, and use the timewarp until you can materialise a steep flight of stairs. Russell will ask to fix the perspective again when you get it right.

Go up the flight of the stairs, then the next few sets of stairs, and the dream will be further reconstructed. Approach the end of the dream with the silhouette of Johanna, and examine it.

Now, you need to find out what caused the explosion.

Return to the plaza and use the timewarp until you hear the sound of rain, and see a waterway form leading upwards. Make sure you stop the timewarp there, as the rest of the dream is the explosion.

Follow the waterway up into the cave and then the next room. In this room, approach the boiler where the steam is coming out of. Examine the boiler to learn a new clue about Johanna.

Use the Control Panel to return to the lab.

Approach the door again to get a call from an unknown number. After the call, exit the lab and go to Go-AT’s headquarters.

At Go-AT, proceed towards the doors near the sign ‘Orange Wing’, and step into the open elevator.

Now go right and go straight ahead to meet Marie Xu.

After you’re done talking to Marie Xu, approach the receptionist and use the scanner on her desk.

Next, approach the scanner-gate on the left of the receptionist, and use the scanner here to proceed. Enter the open elevator.

At the end of the elevator ride, go straight ahead and enter Marie Xu’s office.

This will trigger a longish conversation where you will make some critical political choices. At the end of the conversation, head out of the door and back to the elevator.

On the way back to the parking lot, you’ll talk to Tom on the phone. Again, you’ll make critical choices that will affect your ending.

After the conversation, use your car to head out. This time, go to Alex’s House.

Use the intercom to talk to Alex and talk to him as you wish. After the conversation, use the intercom and talk to Alex again. After the conversation, you won’t get any answer from using the intercom again.

Leave the area and go back to the lab.
