Botany Manor Walkthrough – Chapter 2 (Exploration, Fulguria, Ash Plume)

Botany Manor

Welcome to the Into Indie Games walkthrough for Botany Manor.

For more information on Botany Manor beyond this walkthrough, check out the official website here.

From this point on in the walkthrough, we will first ‘open up’ the areas that are available to us, and then focus on acquiring clues for one plant at a time. Once we have all the clues for a plant, we’ll get to potting it.

Chapter 2 Exploration

Upon entering Botany Manor, take a right and go through the door on the lower floor to reach the apothecary.

Botany Manor Walkthrough - Chapter 2

Take another right into the dining room, and then one more right to reach the drawing room.

Botany Manor Walkthrough - Chapter 2

This is all the exploration you need for the Fulguria, so feel free to go ahead with the Fulguria for now.

In the drawing room, approach the left window and look below the painting of a horse to find a key that will unlock the Back Terrace.

Botany Manor Walkthrough - Chapter 2

Now backtrack to the main hall and enter the screens passage by going past the rotten tree.

Botany Manor Walkthrough - Chapter 2

Here, go right and to the end of the passage to find the Back Terrace door. Unlock it with your key.

Proceed straight and then right all the way down the stairs to get to the Rose Garden. From the Rose Garden, go through the doorway to the left to get to the Viewpoint.

Botany Manor Walkthrough - Chapter 2

Go down the stairs and at the viewpoint overlooking the river, you’ll find the key to the Kitchen. Collect this key.

Botany Manor Walkthrough - Chapter 2

Now return to the Screens Passage and go to the other end of it to find the door to the kitchen. Unlock it and enter.

Botany Manor Walkthrough - Chapter 2

On going down the kitchen steps, you’ll find the pantry to your right and the Servant’s Hall through the closed door to the far right.

Go up the stairs and through the door to find the Kitchen Garden and at the very end of it, the Smokery.

This is all the exploration that’s necessary for the Ash Plume, and indeed, all the exploration that’s possible in Chapter 2.

Fulguria Seeds and Clues

You can find the Fulguria’s seeds at the bottom of the grand staircase, near the door leading to the apothecary.

Botany Manor Walkthrough - Chapter 2

The Fulguria requires 5 clues. Here’s where to find them:

1. Photographs – Grand Staircase – Found at the bottom of the grand staircase, on the small table next to where you find the Fulguria seeds.

2. Folklore Book – Dining Room – Found to the left of the fireplace.

3. Flash Lamp Manual – Drawing Room – Found on the coffee table in the drawing room, near the fireplace.

4. Flash Powder Bottle – Drawing Room – Found on the study table with the lit candle on it.

5. Letter from Farmer – Drawing Room – Found on the study table with the lit candle on it, next to the flash powder bottle.

Fulguria Explanation

We learn from the Folklore Book that the Fulguria only blooms during thunderstorms.

We learn from the photographs that Arabella has a camera with a flash lamp.

We learn from the letter from the farmer that Arabella formerly took pictures with bright flashes in her drawing room.

We learn how to use the flash lamp from the Flash Lamp Manual (i.e. it needs to be filled with flash powder).

And finally, we learn the composition of the flash powder from the empty flash powder bottle.

Fulguria Process

To plant the Fulguria, we need to expose it to bright flashes, similar to those of thunderstorms.

Plant the Fulguria at a potting station as you did with the Windmill Wort before. You can use the potting station in the vestibule. Remember to water the plant after planting it!

Botany Manor Walkthrough - Chapter 2

Pick up the Fulguria pot and take it to the drawing room. Place it on the saucer in front of the camera.

Now typically, we’d just take a picture with the flash lamp attached, but there’s no flash powder in the lamp’s container nor in the bottle, so we’re going to have to make some ourselves.

Go to the apothecary and interact with the potassium bottle twice, and the magnesium bottle once. This way, we form the same chemical composition as the flash powder.

(If you get the composition wrong, use the Chemical Disposal bin to the right of all the bottles).

Return to the drawing room and put the flash lamp powder in the flash lamp’s container. Close the container.

Now put down the beaker somewhere, and press the red button connected to the camera and the flash lamp.

If done right, the Fulguria will bloom.

Ash Plume Seeds and Clues

You can find the Ash Plume’s seeds on a blue table in the rose garden. To get there, enter through the back terrace door and go all the way down the stairs.

The Ash Plume requires 7 clues. Here’s where to find them:

1. Seed Log – Rose Garden – Found immediately next to the packet of Ash Plume seeds.

2. Pyrophiles Book – Screens Passage – Found near the Back Terrace door, under a framed plant diagram.

3. Dartmoor Poster – Screens Passage – Found near the Kitchen door, above a small table.

4. Cooking Book – Kitchen – Found on the main cooking table, next to some cacti and books.

5. Dartmoor Lecture – Kitchen – On a table below a window, next to a broken mortar.

6. Poem – Servants Hall – Framed on a wall, above a small table.

7. Smoking Book – Kitchen Garden – on a table to the left of the Smokery entrance.

Ash Plume Explanation

We learn from the Seed Log that Arabella found the Ash Plume seeds at Wistman’s Wood.

We learn from the Dartmoor poster that Wistman’s Wood is located in Dartmoor.

We learn from the Dartmoor lecture that early settlers cleared the area of trees using fire, resulting in the present-day moorland (which contains Wistman’s Wood, which contains the Ash Plume).

We can infer from the Pyrophiles book that the Ash Plume is a pyrophile, given that it survived the initial fires. We learn here that pyrophiles only bloom from smoke aromas from their natural habitat. We also learn that pyrophiles have tough seeds.

We learn from the poem that Wistman’s Wood has ancient oak trees.

We learn from the smoking book that each type of wood has its own smoke aroma.

Finally, we learn from the cooking book how to pop chestnuts (or in our case, the tough Ash Plume seeds).

Ash Plume Process

The Ash Plume will only bloom when it senses the smoke aroma of a tree that can be found in Wistman’s Wood. As we’ve learned that there are oaks in Wistman’s Wood, we simply have to smoke oak wood and then place the Ash Plume seed where it can catch that smoke.

Before that though, we will also have to get the Ash Plume seed to sprout by subjecting it to high heat.

As usual, prepare a pot at a potting station and put an Ash Plume seed in it. Note that the Ash Plume will not sprout when watered.

Take the Ash Plume to the kitchen and place it on the pan above the fire, which will cause the ash plume to sprout.

Now take the pot to the Smokery and put it on the saucer near the smoke pit.

Head out to the kitchen Garden and pick out one oak log (the leftmost ones are oak logs).

Now go to the Smokery and put the log in the smoke pit.

This will cause the Ash Plume to bloom.

With both of these flowers done, you have completed Chapter 2 and can now proceed to Chapter 3.
