Chapter 3

Part 2

Here in the hub area with the oil barrel, use the wick in your inventory with the oil lamp you found. Then, use your box of matches on the rusty part of the oil barrel.

From now on, whenever you need to light your lamp, you can use the box of matches on the rusty streak on the oil barrel.

As your oil lamp keeps leaking oil, you can only go a few rooms before needing a refill. There are similar oil barrels scattered around the mines, but it is entirely possible to get lost and hit a Game Over screen.

This guide will not take you through every room in the mines (which grants you an achievement), but simply through each of the emergency pumps, and then the Water Pump Room.

Furthermore, note that north will refer to going away from the camera, and south will refer to going toward the camera. East is right, west is left.

Begin by going north, east (barrel), north, north, east, south (barrel), east. This takes you to the workshop, where you’ll find a journal you can read, and more importantly, a blue valve to pick up.

Exit the workshop by going west. Now go north, west, west, west (barrel), west, and north.

This will bring you to your first emergency pump. Use the blue valve on the slot to put it in place. Then, use the valve to turn the pump on. This will turn the lights green instead of red.

Go east and east again to get to a barrel.

Now go north, east, north, and west to get to another barrel. After getting refueled, go east and east to hit your second emergency pump. Simply turn the valve to turn it on.

Go west and west again to get to the previous barrel.

From this barrel, keep going west until you reach a screen where Graham is waist-deep in water. Go west from here to encounter a trio of wolves.

The wolves will ask you questions – should you get three answers wrongly, they will pounce on you, resulting in a Game Over screen.

The “correct” answers, i.e. the answers that won’t get you eaten, are:

I think you are already full.
I just want to help Hannah.
I’ll do what I need to.
Monsters.
It just does.
It always is.

After this section is complete, you will be in a room with a barrel.

Go south to find a final emergency pump. Turn the blue valve and then go south, then south again to get to a barrel.

Finally, go east from here to enter the Water Pump Room. Provided you turned all three emergency pump valves, the lights under the numbers should all be green now.

Pick up the notepad to the right of all the miner helmets. Pick up the key that’s on the notepad, and then read the notepad to learn that you need three small valves to operate the pumping machine.

Two of the valves are already placed in the machine, and you have already picked up a small valve from the wood cabinet where you found the oil lamp, so you don’t need to go hunting for more.

Pick up both the small valves from the machine, so that you have all three valves in your inventory now.

You need to place these valves so that the water goes only to the right, and not at all upward. You learned this from the pumping diagram in the main flooded area.

Place your small valves where you’d like the flow to stop. Remember that your goal is to prevent the water from flowing through the three pipes going up.

Place the valves as shown below to make sure the water goes to the right and not up.

Finally, put the big red valve into the socket below the inactive red light. You picked up this big red valve from the area with the ladder you descended from at the start of this chapter.

Turn the valve. If you got it right, Graham will comment “OK, let’s try…” before turning the valve.

Now use the key you got from the notepad on the door to the right. Pass through the door and then go south to return to Hannah.

Talk to Hannah to get her on piggyback, and then go to the far left. Exit to the left to get out of this place and conclude Chapter 3.
